Meet Rhiannon, a classic 1980 model Ericson 35 mk II that appears to be the only 35mkII in Australia.
Between 1969 and 1982, Ericson Yachts built around 600 Ericson 35 Mk II racer-cruisers, designed by Bruce King. One of the standout features is the encapsulated keel - lead ingots poured in then plugged, which forms part of the solid 1980s fibreglass mould. No keel bolts to inspect or retorque... Ever!
Regularly used, sailed weekly and currently set up ready for a trip to Queensland, I'm only selling to upgrade to another dream yacht that's come onto the market.
Recent Works
Haul-out and antifoul - Gladesville Bridge Marina, Sydney (1 February 2026)
Hull acid wash and high-pressure clean
Two fresh coats of antifoul
New anodes fitted
Deck & Cockpit
The spacious cockpit features a separated helm area and comfortably seats eight. There's a fibreglass cockpit table with attachment point for an emergency tiller underneath. There are two large main winches, two secondary winches, and all lines are led aft, making her easily manageable single-handed.
Interior & Systems
Four steps down brings you to the galley on starboard, with generous bench space and good storage, including sliding cupboards and under-bench lockers.
A near-new 60L 12-volt Igloo fridge sits in the quarter berth area. Highly efficient, I leave it on 24/7 and it works well.
Forward of that is the original timber navigation station, with electronics to port and storage beneath. Power is supplied by one engine start battery and two house batteries (replaced November 2024), plus a 1000W inverter (2000W surge) - easily capable of running the included pod coffee machine.
Rhiannon carries 400W of solar on twin panels mounted above the davits, supported by the alternator on the reliable 20hp Yanmar 2QM20.
The saloon is warm and classic, with an L-shaped settee to port, a straight settee to starboard, and an antique timber table complemented by brass and period fittings - a proper old-world yacht interior.
Electronics
Raymarine Element GPS/Plotter (cockpit)
Raymarine depth gauge
Raymarine Axiom touchscreen (at nav station)
Raymarine VHF with AIS receive
Ultrasonic wind speed/direction sensor
Through-hull depth and speed
Bluetooth sound system
Sails
Main and headsail are in fair to good cruising condition, easily driving her at 6-7 knots in 15 knots of breeze. Also included: storm sail, jib, and a colourful red/green/white spinnaker.
Major Maintenance
Regular Yanmar 2QM20 service - oil changes every 100hrs. A raw water-cooled motor, it's built tough and very reliable. The engine anodes and impeller were recently replaced.
2021 - Engine mounts, stern tube and gland replaced
2019 - Cutless bearing replaced
2016 - All below-water skin fittings, valves and tails replaced
2015 - Standing and running rigging replaced (Whale Spars); new cruising-weight furling genoa by McDiarmid/Doyle
2014 - Folding bronze propeller fitted
Other Notes
Nothing major required - she is ready to enjoy immediately and can be inspected/sailed on Pittwater anytime.
Some light cosmetic varnish work on cabin-top handrails, storm boards and cockpit panels would lift her presentation further.
With a hull speed of 7.4 knots and beautifully balanced manners under sail, Rhiannon is a rewarding yacht to own and helm.
She's a lovely lady; it's very sad to leave her, but a bigger boat beckons. Rhiannon is a joy to own and sail, and an inspection will not disappoint.
