Fibreglass/GRP Glass over ply. Vinylester hull. Extended hull with transom steps to the water.
Professionally built in 1989 by Noosa Glass Industries to Roger Simpson's well-regarded Cloud 12 design, this series has long been respected for its generous internal volume, dependable performance and excellent load-carrying ability-making it a popular choice for extended cruising and liveaboard lifestyles.
Significant recent investment has substantially enhanced the vessel's appeal. Twin Yanmar 30hp diesel engines (2024), new gearboxes, shaft seals and steering controls have transformed reliability and ease of operation, while the standing rigging was replaced in 2025. These upgrades, combined with ongoing preventative maintenance represent a substantial investment and offer genuine peace of mind for a future owner. Complementing this, the cockpit was freshly painted in 2026.
With practicality and seaworthiness in mind, 'Knee Deep' is a spacious Australian cruising catamaran that places comfort, practicality and reliability ahead of outright performance.
Internally, the boat is comfortable, clean and highly functional. A well-designed down galley features generous refrigeration, freezer capacity and a recently installed microwave, while the saloon offers excellent visibility through forward-facing windows and a large, extendable dining table ideal for both everyday living and entertaining.
Accommodation is well presented, with clean flooring and bulkhead capeting and ample storage throughout with tidy bathroom facilities including a composting toilet system.
'Knee Deep' is an honest, capable and well-upgraded cruising catamaran that represents excellent value in today's market for buyers prioritising function, space and reliability. She presents as structurally sound, mechanically updated and ready for immediate use.
Major Recent Upgrades 2024-2026

Designed as a comfortable cruising catamaran, 'Knee Deep' is happiest covering coastal miles at an easy, predictable pace. She rewards relaxed passagemaking, offers exceptional stability at anchor and provides the kind of practical living space that encourages extended time aboard. Combined with a recent antifoul, ongoing preventative maintenance and comprehensive service records, these upgrades represent many of the major expenses prospective owners would otherwise expect to undertake themselves.

Remarks
BACKGROUND:
'Knee Deep' is one of four 'Cloud 12' designs by Roger Simpson - professionally built to a proven design to professional survey standards by Noosa Glass Industries. Vessel built in Noosa and based in Hervey Bay - originally called Stingray. Sold to Lake Macquarrie (liveaboard) couple who underwent a refit, rig, mast, elec rewire in 2012, and extended the sugarscoop transoms in 2019. Cruised East Coast (Whitsundays).
Current owners purchased in 2021 from friends. Cruised Moreton Bay to Keppels. They have found her to be safe and secure with a very comfortable interior.
Owners Notes:
"Over the years we have sailed Dinghies, Trailer Sailers, Trimarans and Monohulls. "Knee Deep" is the first catamaran that we owned.
We knew the previous two owners and were aware of 'Knee Deep's' adventures. The use of vinylester resin by Noosa Glass Industry's in the hull layout minimised osmosis risk and not having to deal with osmosis was very attractive to us. Also the direct shaft drive removes the complexity of sail drive mechanisms and the need for elaborate seals.
We have had two trips to the Keppel group and adventures around the Sandy Straits, Moreton Bay and the Bay Islands. Pancake Creek and Bustard Head remain a favourite stop over. We use 5kn for trip planning. 'Knee Deep' can comfortably hold 5kn at 10kn wind speed.
'Knee Deep' is a great cruising catamaran. Like most cats she laps up a downwind run or a broad reach. Sailing to windward is usually assisted by the twin Yanmar 30hp diesels. On any bearing the hydraulic steering minimises stress on the helm. The Rocna anchor gives confidence. 'Knee Deep' is very stable at anchor, you don't get the pitching and rolling that can keep you awake at night. 'Knee Deep is spacious'. The open saloon provides room to plan your trip and entertain friends. The two queen sized cabins allow you to stretch out and rest. The galley and navigation station are well laid out and have full head room. "
Sailing Notes:
Performs best in winds upwards of 15 - 20kts under full rig. Hydraulic steering is very light. Motor sailing best for upwind sailing. Headsail is reefed before main. Mainsail is best deployed (unfurled) manually on starboard tack. A lever at the mast is all that's required to switch from manual to hydraulic but vessel must be on stbd tack to allow for furling direction. Owners claim that she is great fun on a reach, safe in bad weather and perfect for two people. They love sitting on the steps on the foredeck with a glass of wine in hand. Rain can be collected to top up tanks. Great protection from drop down clears with canvas covers - fitted around the cockpit with large zippers and slide on /off sections. Allows for extending the saloon and cockpit into one large open-plan living area.
Antifouled Feb 2026
Cockpit paint renewed May 2026. Replaced Sep 2025 (last haul out antifoul).
