Aquitaine is a Catalina 320 shoal-draft masthead sloop, currently moored in Five Dock Bay North, Sydney. The Catalina 320 is a well-regarded production cruiser known for its balance of sailing performance, comfort, practical layout and strong parts support.

She is a comfortable, quick and responsive 32 ft coastal cruiser with a generous cockpit, a roomy interior and a layout that works very well for weekends away, harbour sailing and extended coastal cruising. The cockpit comfortably seats a large group while sailing or relaxing at anchor, and the interior is spacious, practical and easy to live aboard.

Aquitaine has been owned by the current owner since 2018 and has been used regularly for coastal cruising, including Sydney Harbour, Pittwater, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Botany Bay, Port Hacking and Jervis Bay. She has proven practical and comfortable for trips with family and friends, regularly accommodating six people for shorter trips, while being most comfortable with four to five aboard for longer cruising.

The shoal-draft keel draws approximately 1.3 m, which is a major advantage for coastal cruising and anchoring, allowing access to shallower anchorages and more sheltered positions.

The accommodation layout is one of the strengths of the Catalina 320. The aft cabin has a large queen-size berth, the forward V-berth sleeps two adults and has a door for privacy, the saloon table converts to a roomy double berth, and the port-side settee can also be used as a single berth. In total, the boat can sleep up to seven depending on sleeping arrangements, or four people in separate berths.

Aquitaine is a capable coastal cruiser and has proven solid, dependable and confidence-inspiring in coastal conditions. She is also quick and nimble for her size. In a good breeze she will readily approach hull speed, around 7 knots, and under motor she is comfortable at around 6.5 knots. She has a three-blade feathering propeller, reducing drag under sail.

The sail plan includes a newer mainsail with handling improvements, including mast-track bearing cars to make hoisting easier, and a 130% genoa that powers the boat well. The main has a slightly raised foot for improved cockpit clearance.

Standing and running rigging were replaced in October 2018. Antifoul is booked for August 2026.

A major advantage of the Catalina 320 is the support available for the model. Many OEM or direct replacement parts are available through Catalina Direct, with model-specific instructions and parts support, making ongoing maintenance and ownership more straightforward than with many lower-volume yachts.

Aquitaine is for sale due to growing family commitments and reduced time available to use her properly.
