MISTRAL - MARC LOMBARD CUSTOM 34 - Now For Sale

One of Australia's most successful offshore racing yachts is now offered for sale.

Mistral is an exceptionally developed Marc Lombard-designed 34-footer with a race record that very few yachts of any size can match. Built as a lightweight, highly optimised IRC offshore racer, she has subsequently undergone an extensive development program encompassing her rig, sail wardrobe, water ballast, rudders, steering, deck hardware and electronics.

The results speak for themselves.

Most recently, Mistral won the 2026 GCCM Gold Coast Mackay Yacht Race Overall, while also taking 1st IRC and 1st PHS Monohull Division 2 - another major overall victory against a fleet containing substantially larger yachts.

Her Rolex Sydney Hobart record is equally remarkable. In 2023, Mistral finished 6th IRC Overall, won Division 4 and won the Double Handed Division. She backed that performance up in the 2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart, finishing 9th IRC Overall, again winning Division 4 and the Double Handed Division, while remarkably finishing 18th across the line despite being just 10.58 metres long.

Other standout performances include winning the 2023 Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race Overall, second overall in the 2022 Montague Island Race while winning the Double Handed division, second in the 2024 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Race and another Double Handed division victory.

Mistral also won the inaugural Australian Ocean Racing Championship, defeating a fleet that included the 100-foot Andoo Comanche, TP52 Smuggler and RP72 URM Group - an extraordinary demonstration of the boat's performance and rating optimisation across a series rather than a single favourable race.

A continuously developed race yacht

Since her launch, enormous attention has gone into developing Mistral rather than simply maintaining her.

A major upgrade in 2023 saw the installation of an Axxon Composites Ultra High Modulus carbon mast, High Modulus carbon boom, Nitronic rod standing rigging, carbon spinnaker pole, Harken racing winches and an extensive replacement of the deck hardware.

In 2022, a Marc Lombard-designed water ballast system was installed, carrying 343 litres per side with approximately 15-second transfer, providing enormous righting-moment advantages when racing offshore with reduced crew numbers. The development continued in 2024 with the removal of the original rudders and steering system and installation of new Lombard-designed rudders positioned significantly further aft.

The sail inventory is extensive and exceptionally current, including multiple North Sails 3Di mainsails and headsails, masthead Zero, flying headsail and a comprehensive inventory of reaching and running sails, with numerous sails added throughout 2024 and 2025.

Her electronics package is equally serious, centred around B&G H5000, Pixel sur Mer processing and pilot integration, Garmin GNX 120 mast displays, B&G Zeus chartplotter, Precision 9 heading sensor, Simrad AIS and integrated Starlink Mini, together with satellite phone infrastructure and extensive data acquisition and control systems.

Proven offshore, not theoretical performance

There are plenty of highly specified race yachts. Far fewer have repeatedly converted that specification into major race victories.

Mistral's record includes:

2026 Gold Coast Mackay - 1st Overall
2024/25 Australian Ocean Racing Championship - 1st Overall
2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart - 9th IRC Overall, 1st Division 4,1st Double Handed
2024 Sydney Gold Coast - 2nd Overall, 1st Double Handed
2023 Rolex Sydney Hobart - 6th IRC Overall, 1st Division 4,1st Double Handed
2023 Pittwater to Coffs - 1st Overall
2022 Rolex Sydney Hobart - 1st Double Handed
2022 Montague Island Race - 2nd Overall, 1st Double Handed
2021 CYCA Summer Offshore Series - 1st Two-Handed Division
At just 10.59 metres and 3,768kg displacement, Mistral has repeatedly beaten yachts many times her size and value on corrected time while remaining exceptionally fast on the water.

For an owner looking to compete seriously in Australia's major offshore races - particularly in IRC and Double Handed competition - it would be difficult to find another yacht with this combination of recent major-race results, sophisticated development, current equipment and proven rating performance.

Mistral isn't a project waiting to become competitive. She is a fully developed and exceptionally well-proven offshore racing package with an established record at the very top of Australian offshore sailing.
