Designed by highly regarded New Zealand naval architect Ron Given and launched in 2005, Playground was constructed in Western Australia using strip-planked cedar and epoxy, with an exceptionally robust structure incorporating 11 bulkheads in each hull. At approximately 8 tonnes lightship, her easily driven hull form and daggerboards deliver excellent performance without requiring an oversized sail plan. Her offshore pedigree is extensive.
Playground has circumnavigated Australia, crossed the Australian Bight five times and completed multiple passages to Indonesia and New Caledonia, most recently sailing from Fremantle to Fiji. She comfortably achieves 8-12 knots under sail, with the ability to safely surf at considerably higher speeds in offshore conditions.
The current owner has maintained and progressively upgraded the vessel over the past 13 years. Recent investment includes a 2026 UK Sailmakers X-Drive mainsail, 2026 OneSails self-tacking jib, renewed standing rigging, new anchor chain, upgraded Victron electrical system, 850W solar, 2025 AGM house batteries, Raymarine navigation equipment and radar, renewed hydraulic steering, composite skin fittings, refurbished Spectra watermaker, new Force 10 stove and galley benchtops, updated upholstery and integrated Starlink.
Accommodation is generous, with four double cabins, two electric heads and two separate showers, while the galley-down configuration leaves an exceptionally spacious saloon above. The protected cockpit provides excellent offshore security as well as a comfortable entertaining area with seating, twin daybeds and a fixed bimini.
Power is provided by twin 40hp Yanmar diesels with approximately 2,500 hours, driving three-blade Gori folding propellers. Her efficient hulls allow approximately 7.2 knots under a single engine with excellent fuel economy, while 600 litres of diesel and additional fuel capacity provide serious passage-making range.
Her extensive offshore inventory includes a Spectra Catalina 300 watermaker, 840Ah house bank, 850W solar, Victron inverter/charger, Raymarine electronics, Vesper AIS, HF and VHF communications, Starlink, liferaft, EPIRB, storm sails, Jordan Series Drogue and dedicated heavy-weather attachment points. A Highfield 3.1m ultralight tender with Yamaha 15hp outboard is also included.
Australian registered with Australian taxes paid, Playground represents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire a genuinely proven, fast and exceptionally well-prepared offshore cruising catamaran. She has been continuously developed by an experienced owner and is equipped to continue serious coastal or bluewater cruising without the extensive preparation normally required of a vessel in this category.
