Sportsman calls the 252 the ultimate blend of versatility, functionality and style in a 25-foot package, and for a lot of buyers this is the sensible end of the range: 7.7 metres, 2.82-metre beam, 21 degrees of transom deadrise, 530 litres of fuel, up to 350 horsepower, and a hull that tows and launches without ceremony.

It fishes properly. A 95-litre transom aquarium livewell with starboard viewing glass, two macerated in-deck fish boxes either side of the leaning post, two insulated bow storage boxes and lockable tackle drawers under the leaning post. Five rocket launchers and kingfish rod holders live on the hardtop, with spreader lights above them for early starts and late finishes.

The family side is not an afterthought. The console front seat has a backrest and an insulated cooler beneath it, cockpit bolster cushions run the sides, and the console itself is a lockable enclosed head that doubles as a changing room. A dedicated stern anchor compartment for sandbar anchoring comes pre-equipped, and there are freshwater and raw water washdowns plus a three-step recessed stainless ladder.

The helm runs a SeaStar tilt system with 40 degrees of travel and five lock positions behind a stainless wheel, with SportLink delivering dual Garmin displays, JL Audio and NMEA 2000 factory-integrated. Construction is the same everywhere in the range: no-wood, all-fibreglass with vinyl ester resin, AlloChrome4200+ fasteners rated beyond 4,200 hours of salt spray, NMMA certification and a 10-year limited hull warranty. Second station available.
