Main Description
Bill Dixon Centre Cockpit | Four Sleeping Cabins | 300Ah Lithium and Victron 2024 | TruDesign Seacocks 2023 | Watermaker, Solar and Wind | Coppercoat | Ready to Cruise
The Moody 44 was drawn by Bill Dixon and built by Marine Projects in Plymouth, who built Moody yachts for many years. She is a centre cockpit cruiser of solid, conservative construction, intended for long passages and long stays aboard. The layout gives a proper aft owner's cabin, well separated from the forward accommodation by the engine room. Stowage is generous throughout. The type suits a couple or a family who mean to live aboard and go a long way.
Da Capo was completed in 1993 and is on her third owner. She has been in the Caribbean since around 2010. Her present owners bought her in 2021 and have cruised her as a family liveaboard, laying her up ashore in Panama between seasons. She is offered fully equipped and ready to sail.
Money has been spent where it matters. All thru-hulls and seacocks were replaced with TruDesign composite fittings in 2023. The house bank was renewed in 2024 with 300Ah of lithium, Victron charging and a SmartShunt, supported by 685W of solar and a wind generator. The Perkins Prima M50 received new mounts and a rebuilt starter in January 2026. The Coppercoat dates from 2019 and the dodger and rain-catchment shade cover from 2023.
She already carries what most new owners spend their first season fitting: a Spectra watermaker, Hydrovane self-steering, SSB with Pactor modem, AIS, an Axiom chartplotter, 72 metres of stainless chain and a 12 ft RIB with a 15hp outboard. Her owners have been open about her cosmetic needs and the age of her standing rigging. She shows honest use, not neglect.

Broker's Comments
Well found ocean monohulls in the Caribbean tend to be either tired or heavily priced. Da Capo sits sensibly between the two. The unglamorous and expensive jobs, seacocks, batteries and charging, have been done recently, and her cruising equipment is already aboard and in use. Her owners have been candid about what remains, chiefly cosmetic work and the age of the standing rigging, so a buyer can plan and budget with confidence. Lying in Panama, she is well placed for the San Blas islands, the canal and the Pacific beyond. For a couple or a family wanting a capable ocean cruiser without a long refit list, she deserves a close look.
