If you dream about cruising up and down the Australian coast as i did and don't have heaps of money to spend, then this is a very affordable boat that will easily fulfil that dream. Regularily maintained and ready to set sail.
There are not a lot of veteran sailing catamaran vessels of this size still being actively used and cared for. Early Australia designers such as Lock Crowther, Robin Chamberlin pioneered the development of modern cruising catamarans we know today.
Water Lily (formerly Jesse) was designed by Robin Chamberlain and built by Jeff Jackson on the Brisbane River in 1980. Commissioned for commercial usage in December 1981, it was a time when large cruising sail cats came of age.
I purchased the vessel in late 2016 and have sailed up and down the east coast of Australia between Gippsland and Cairns.
For a 40 ft cruising cat it offers really large and comfortable accommodation and is very seaworthy. I have set it up for easy single handing as most of my sailing is solo so everything must be easy for one person to handle. The basic design of the boat being a heavy cutter rig with large deck area provides a great platform.
Features worth a mention - fully enclosed cockpit with near new clears, very spacious interior, easy sail handling with cutter rig, large un cluttered deck, fibreglass hull and deck, cockpit covers for for sun and rain protection at anchor, new generation anchor for peace of mind, strong davit with electric dinghy winch and solid easy to row dinghy.
A very spacious interior, warm friendly feeling with lots of timber finishes. Adequate solar power for extended off grid living, inverter for 240V power, all energy efficient lighting and USB ports throughout.
Over the past 9 years that I have owned the boat extensive work has been carried out including replacement of the windows, all sails, new generation anchor with 10mm chain, rebuild of cupboards in cabins and galley, replaced all carpets, new leather seat upholstery in the saloon and vinyl in the cockpit, innerspring mattress in the main cabin, solar panels and lithium Ion batteries, new propellers and cutlass bearings, deck wash down pump, new AIS and navigation panel, new cockpit clears and cockpit shade covers.
I have put together a comprehensive boat operation manual covering all of the systems and procedures with photos and schematic diagrams for the electrical systems and technical manuals for all equipment.
It is with some sadness that I have decided sell this boat. We have had many enjoyable and memorable experiences in the past 9 years. But last year I experienced a serious health issue and we have had to re- evaluate our plans going forward.
This is a private sale so give me a call if you are at all interested. We can have a yarn about the boat, what you are looking for in a boat, your plans and whether it is suitable for you.
