Zorba is a 43ft custom catamaran built by Composite Yacht Constructions (now Asia Catamarans) under the management of marine carpenter Roger Diggleman. The boat is a Contraste 44 designed by Jacques Fioleau (French naval architect known for designing light performance catamarans).
The build is plywood epoxy, with 4 watertight bulkheads and a displacement of 8000kg.
The aim of this catamaran is to combine performance, comfort, and safety for extended cruising. The boat has several key features:
o Daggerboards for better upwind performance.
o Light displacement and good sail plan making her very fast
o Rigid extended coachroof for a fully protected cockpit
o Abundant storage throughout, many smart ventilation systems for cabins and engine rooms, rain water collection system
o A simple setup for long-range fast cruising without complications!
The boat is an owners version 3 double cabins, and large bathroom forward on starboard side. The saloon opens fully into cockpit making for open plan living including a lounging area (and 2nd double bunk if you wanted), large cockpit table with seating for 6-8 and a good sized galley in U that faces forwards. The interior is a balance of teak and white painted joinery, offering a bright, easy-to-maintain interior space.
Zorba has been well maintained over the years with regular equipment additions:
- 2024 mainsail North Sails square top pro radial dacron full battens 59m2
- 2017 gennaker North Sails 80m2
- 2014 self-taking solent North Sails
- 2022 new Rocna anchor and chain
- 2021 new house batteries
- W Sunpower flex solar panels: 2 installed and 2 spare, with Victron mppt charter controllers
- 2021 new 220v 800W Victron inverter
- 2023 new 3m rigid inflatable dingy
- 2023 new 18hp Tohatsu outboard
- 2024 haulout for full antifouling and sail drive servicing
