Cloudy Bay was commissioned to be built by The Cat Factory in 2009. She is one of three Fusion 40 catamarans to be built to exacting standards amongst other larger high performance luxury catamarans built there. Featuring in MultiHull Australia at launch her build quality and stringent maintenance program and upgrades is testament to her like new condition and appearance. One would be challenged to find a better Fusion 40 sailing catamaran elsewhere.
Many redundancies were incorporated throughout Cloudy Bays build and several have been added since to provide contingency and overall reliability. Her engines are isolated with the port having a separate dedicated battery and alternator, the starboard starts utilising the port engine when running however can also be started from the AGM house bank. The starboard engine also charges the house bank independently as well as heats the hot water system when running. The 60L hot water system can also be heated via shore 240v or via the Whisper 8kVA Generator. The Spectra watermaker can be run off the house bank when ever required however is generally utilised whenever an engine is running. An emergency override system is also available to access all battery power. A dedicated earthing plate is connected to the base of the mast in conjunction with a lightning dispersion rod to minimise electrical damage in an electrical storm. Each engine and the generator have independent fuel tanks.
The navigation suite is also easily isolated should an event occur where this is deemed necessary. There are two separate autopilots, the secondary is completely isolated and easily commissioned should it be required. Three GPS antennas one for each the VHF radio and Navigation display as well as a built in one on the 12" Navigation plotter. There are two transducers one in each hull, the primary transducer in the port hull and the Airmar DST810 in the starboard hull. This configuration provides an ability to know the water depth below each hull in depths less then 3m. The sacrificial mini keels provide an option to sit the vessel on a firm base for inspection and repair safely in remote locations. Eg oil seals on saildrives.

Remarks
Cloudy Bay was set up for extensive travel, she is very well appointed for luxury without compromising and excellent sailing ability. We have lived on her for up to 8 months at a time and sailed extensively including an eight month voyage from Perth to Sydney across the top. Several extensive winter breaks from Sydney to the Far North and a journey transiting the Coral Sea atolls. Cloudy Bay always got us there.
Over the lash 10 years her annualised maintainence has been regularly attended to at Boatworks.
