Greene Marine 38 Even Keel

SandPiper III is a versatile, proven Blue Water capable boat, designed and built by renowned international boat builder Walter Greene (link below). Epoxy foam sandwich hulls for strength and longevity and no osmosis. Decks are epoxy over marine ply and end grained balsa. Retracting centreboards and kickup rudders for each hull give her a very shallow draught (0.7m) allowing her to go many places other boats of similar size cannot. This also allows her to be beached if needed.
The original owners sailed her extensively, cruising the Caribbean and then the Pacific for five years before ending up in Darwin. She has been Australian owned and has been used to cruise the Australian coast since. The current owner purchased Sandpiper in Cairns and sailed her south to Victoria for some renovations and upgrades with intentions to continue to cruise the Australian coast. Unfortunately heath issues have forced Sandpiper to be placed back on the market.
Upgrades and renovations include:
- A new foam sandwich bridge-deck roof with new side windows and rear covers was made to replace the old soft covers
- Two new 200w Renogy Solar PV panels and a new solar charge controller
- House batteries upgraded to lithium with new dc/dc charger
- New port alternator
- New Simrad Autopilot just installed
- New gearboxes (Port has approx. 20hrs and the Starboard gearbox just replaced)
- New macerator in the head
- Additional water storage in each hull
- New fridge
A few other systems such as the radios and the water maker have yet to be sorted. These appear to be high quality systems however they have not been needed recently and so never investigated. The two beta (Kubota) diesel engines are the originals but start reliably and don't blow any significant smoke. The tender is usable but would be nice to renew. Such items have been factored into the price.
Sandpiper is a very capable well equipped boat for the price.
