Boat Overview

SpyHop II is a 2005 Leopard 43 catamaran, four cabin version, US documented and currently lying in Grenada. She is turnkey ready, extensively upgraded, and set up for serious blue water cruising. Built by Robertson and Caine, the Leopard 43 is well regarded for its balance of comfort and performance. Unlike many newer charter focused designs, this model was built with offshore capability in mind and carries an Ocean Class A rating. Designed by Simonis and Voogd, the Leopard 43 combines strength, safety, and handling with generous interior volume.

Maintenance and Upgrades

SpyHop II has been continually maintained and improved by knowledgeable owners. Major systems have been upgraded in recent years, making her ideal for long term liveaboard use and off grid cruising. She carries a 1390 watt solar array installed in 2022 and 2023, paired with 800 amp hours of Discover lithium batteries and a Victron 3000 watt inverter charger. A Northern Lights 9 kW generator with low hours provides backup power. A SeaWater Pro watermaker, capable of producing 20 gallons per hour, ensures independence in remote anchorages.

Electronics and Comfort

Electronics and navigation equipment include a Raymarine Axiom 9 chartplotter, AIS transceiver, autopilot, VHF, and new helm compass. Comfort on board is supported by two Dometic air conditioning units, upgraded refrigeration including two large SeaFrost fridge freezers, and an additional portable Dometic freezer. The galley is well equipped with a Force 10 propane stove and oven, induction cooktop, and extensive galley gear already aboard.

Sails and Rigging

Sail handling is straightforward with a brand new Ullman mainsail from 2023 and a genoa in good condition with a new UV cover. All standing rigging was replaced in 2024. Running rigging has been renewed as needed. The Sparcraft mast and boom remain original and sound. Steering and deck gear have been maintained and upgraded, including new mainsheet blocks and lines.

Engine and Mechanical Information

The yacht is powered by twin Yanmar 39 hp engines that have been carefully serviced, with major maintenance items such as cutless bearings, shaft seals, and heat exchangers renewed in 2025. She carries straight shaft drives rather than saildrives, offering reliability and reduced maintenance. A 12 foot AB dinghy with new chaps and a Tohatsu 18 hp outboard is included, along with spares and accessories.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in the four cabin, four head layout. Three heads remain fitted with freshwater electric toilets, while the fourth has been converted into a laundry room with a washing machine, easily reversible if desired. One cabin has been adapted for storage, giving added flexibility for liveaboard use. The saloon and cockpit are spacious and fitted with upgraded upholstery, shades, and lighting. Wide transom steps and sugar scoops allow for easy boarding, swimming, and diving.

Safety Equipment

Safety equipment includes a life raft new in 2022, EPIRB, extinguishers, detectors, and medical kits. The yacht is also well supplied with spares, tools, and extras that add real value for a buyer planning extended cruising.

Recent Service History

SpyHop II has been hauled and serviced regularly, with new antifouling and bottom work most recently in 2025. The hulls, rig, machinery, and systems have all been kept current, leaving nothing for a new owner to catch up on.

Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to step aboard a Leopard 43 that is already prepared for blue water passages and comfortable Caribbean cruising. SpyHop II combines proven design, recent upgrades, and diligent maintenance in a package that is ready to sail away.

Owners Comments and Boat History

We have spent the past 3 years sailing the Caribbean islands, enjoying the proximity of the islands and the beautiful sailing trade winds. SpyHop II was made to sail in this beautiful part of the world, but she is blue water ready to explore cruising in other parts as well.
To the best of our knowledge, she was in Moorings fleet from the time she was new until she was phased out 5 years later. For approximately 12 years she operated as a crewed vessel in the BVI and a day sailor in St. Croix doing Buck Island day trips with a Captain.
We purchased her in 2021 and with some TLC and lots of upgrades has been our home for the past 4 years.
