Currently located in beautiful Belize, this Australian registered cruising catamaran is the popular owner's version. The MAXIM 380 is a South African cat, built in Durban, from the board of Alexander Simonis, the designer behind the very successful Voyage series of catamarans. The Maxim cats were certainly built for strength and elements like skegs make them easy to beach. The 2005 version is wider than previous models and has higher headroom - over 6' throughout.
The cockpit is especially roomy, with 3 large lockers, over 4' deep, as well as a separate sealed gas locker venting overboard inside one of the cockpit lockers.
With the unique Voyage style dinghy storage on blocks, once launched you have a full width walking transom from which to dive, or fish or barbeque. This well equipped catamaran has been cruising the Caribbean with the current owner for over 12 years. Over the last 3 years the vessel has spent the hurricane seasons in the Rio Dulce, where no expense was spared in ensuring she was kept well maintained, including copper coat antifouling professionally applied, and a hardtop for the solar panels as well as a water catchment system, new upholstery and canvas and new fuel tanks.
The Maxim design is elegant and roomy. With all lines coming back to the cockpit, she is easily single handed, which the current owner has done for the majority of the time.
