1989 Kennex 380 Sailing Catamaran - Theophilus

Theophilus is a 1989 French-built Kennex 380, designed for safe and capable family offshore cruising. She has crossed the Atlantic three times under previous ownership, and most recently sailed from the US East Coast to Australia via the Caribbean, South Pacific islands, New Zealand, and Vanuatu, demonstrating the strength, reliability, and seakeeping these boats are known for.

Her current owner has maintained her to a high standard and carried out a number of thoughtful upgrades that enhance both structural integrity and long-distance cruising capability:
* Strategic Carbon Fibre reinforcements on high stress areas of the hull (by Kennex factory)
* Unidirectional and heavy tri-axial fiberglass cloth, bonded with epoxy resin, has been used to reinforce key structural bulkheads and high-stress areas beyond factory standards.

On deck, Theophilus features a generously protected cockpit, wide side decks and a large open trampoline, creating a comfortable and secure platform underway. Her well balanced sail plan includes a fully battened mainsail with stack pack, furling genoa and a removable inner forestay for a storm jib. Sail handling is managed by seven self tailing winches, with all lines led aft to the cockpit, making her very manageable short handed or even single-handed.

Below decks, the saloon is bright, practical and welcoming. The saloon offers comfortable seating around a central table, positioned adjacent to a functional navigation and chart table. A defining feature of the Kennex 380 is the large central forward window, which provides excellent visibility from the galley up layout. The galley is well equipped with a three-burner stove and oven, ample storage and excellent forward visibility, making it practical and pleasant both at sea and at anchor.

The port hull features a double berth aft, generous storage lockers amidships and a bathroom forward with toilet and shower.
The starboard hull offers two double berths, with one aft and a second midships, making the layout ideal for families or cruising with guests. Forward in the bow is a dedicated crew locker, providing excellent storage (or convert back to single crew berth). Collision bulkheads form the forward walls in both hulls, and as a bonus there are two additional forepeak berths, one in each hull, accessed via large deck hatches.

When the sails are down, propulsion is provided by twin Volvo Penta 18hp diesel engines driving folding propellers through sail drives, offering reliable and fuel efficient performance under power. Each engine room is accessible under the aft bunks and has been regularly serviced. The current owner has also installed a freshwater flush system to extend the life of the engines.
