With its stunning highly polished red hull, elegant lines, and rich history, Huon Chief is sure to impress even the most discerning yachtsman! Built by the renowned Wilson Brothers in Cygnet to an extremely high standard, of triple diagonal cold moulded Huon Pine, the vessel was designed as a strong and competitive inshore and offshore racer under the IOR One Ton racing rules. The original owner campaigned the vessel very successfully including representing Australia at Newport, Rhode Island in the 1975 World One Ton Championship, competed in multiple Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races, and also cruised Australia and the Pacific extensively. In 2002-2005 the vessel under went a major refit to become the ultimate fast, easily managed cruiser with all the comforts one could want. This refit included: NEW ENGINE AND FUEL TANK, COMPLETE REWIRE, ALL NEW QUALITY ELECTRONICS, ADDITION OF A DIESEL HEATER, REBUILT COCKPIT WITH TEAK DECK, ELECTRIC ANCHOR WINCH, NEW OVERSIZED RIGGING, ACCOMMODATION IMPROVED FOR CRUISING, the list just goes on and on! All work was done to the highest standard and the vessel currently presents in exceptional condition.

Stepping inside, the Blackwood and Celery Top Pine trims are finished to a high standard, the the hull planking gives the vessel a warm and traditional feel. The accommodation is well appointed with a large double forward, two singles in the saloon, and the dinette drops down to create an extra berth when required. The beautifully upholstered settees provide seating around the large fold out dinette for 8 in comfort. The L Shaped galley is very well appointed with 2 burner gas stove with oven and grill, double stainless steel sink with pressure and manual water pumps, large 12V fridge, and excellent bench space. Opposite is a true nav station complete with HF and VHF Radios, upgraded switchboard, and autopilot remote. The package is complete with private bathroom with electric toilet and shower. The interior of the vessel is heated by a Sigmar Diesel heater which is both a stunning feature in gleaming stainless steel, and a means of enjoying cruising at its finest even in the chilly winter months.

On deck, the cockpit is very well protected with a spray dodger, and was redesigned specifically for cruising. With all lines lead back to the cockpit, self tailing winches, autopilot, furling headsail and mainsail in a boom bag with lazy jacks, this is a vessel that is easily sailed shorthanded. The teak decks present in excellent condition and provide easy access around the vessel. Equipped with an electric anchor winch and full suite of Raymarine instruments, this is a vessel that lacks nothing.

This vessel is powered by a NEW 2002 Volvo Penta 40HP Diesel engine which provides easy cruising at 6 knots in any conditions. With a NEW 2019 prop shaft and engine mounts, NEW 2002 fuel tank, and a motoring range of 650NMs on one tank, this vessel is capable of fulfilling any serious cruising ambitions!

This vessel truely is an iconic part of Tasmania's yachting history.
