Gondwana is a Joe Adams designed 45ft centre cockpit cutter sloop. This solid cruising yacht was professionally built by HB Forming in Warners Bay, Lake Macquarie and the interior was fitted out by her owners in view to be sailed far and wide. She was designed to cruise safely and comfortably on extended passages, chosing aluminium as a proven material for 'get you anywhere' cruising. The yacht was built with the utmost of care and attention and maintained by her owners since her launch in Sydney in 2003.

Below decks, Gondwana is superbly fitted out in Fijian Karui and teak on split levels. The cockpit opens through to the nav station and galley with rear access to the master cabin (port) and workshop (starboard). Continuing forward, a very inviting and spacious saloon is warm and dry with a very cosy atmosphere with dining table offset to starboard. This leads to the yachts' head (offset to stbd) and forward double cabin.

Everything on this boat has been carefully and methodically designed to maximise comfort and ease of use when sailing short handed at sea. The deep and protected cockpit ensures safe navigation with excellent all-round visibility, a well laid out navigation station with clearly labelled controls and circuit breakers and several clearly engineered and designed extras that only a seasoned mariner (and engineer) would consider.

Being cutter-rigged 'Gondwana' offers several sailing configurations with a wardrobe of several cruising sails - all in good condition. The Genoa is fitted on a furler while a self-tacking staysail boom can be fitted using the inner forestay for heavier weather and when short-handed passage making. Combined wiht high cut yankee provides excellent sailing configurations for stronger winds without placing extreme force on the mast. All headsail sheets lead aft to the cockpit with the mainsheet and traveller controls within easy reach just aft of the cockpit.

All electronic aids to navigation are easily accessed from the raised doghouse but one can also remain 'on deck' in the cockpit thanks to a hard top dodger and removable enclosure. Gondwana is fited with a Navman GPS tracker, Vesper Marine AIS, independent Furuno Radar, Uniden VHF and a Coursemaster Autopilot system. Instrument panels are fitted in the cockpit for wind, depth and log. Safety systems include both electric and manual bilge pumps with audible alarms, a gas alarm system, solar and wind charging systems, an efficient heart face inverter charger, and to boot the yacht is also fitted with a soanar ultrasound system which minimises growth on the hull.

Additional safety features include dual single berths in the aft cabin to allow crew to sleep securely when on passage, however this cabin could be reconfigured to allow for a double bed if desired. The yacht is powered by an immaculately maintained shaft-driven Thornycroft TM140 4 cylinder diesel engine - serviced Oct 2023. Auxillary power is provided by a host of batteries, wind generator and solar powers.

This exceptionally well built yacht is a registered Australian ship and being offered for sale for the very first time. Several of the ship's systems and controls have been clearly labelled, with user-friendly instructions which are further described in her many on-board manuals. A full rig replacement was completed by Joe Walsh in 2013 so will require inspection prior to venturing offshore.

Gondwana would be best suited to a liveaboard cruising couple seeking a proven, safe and very strong passagemaker yacht. She is built like a bullet proof machine, and could be taken anywhere on the globe. She has recently been slipped and antifouled (Nov 2023) using Jotun Black and Propspeed on her Autostream 3 blade feathering propellor with new anodes. She is ready and waiting for her next open ocean adventure. View the exclusive feature brochure (linked) for more background information and watch the video linked in the photos. Gondwana is a solid and secure vessel thanks to the deep, well protected centre cockpit, non skid decks, inumerous handholds and raised triple lifelines which add an additional safety aspect for unfavourable sea conditions or if sailing with children or pets.

Crew can handle adverse conditions while sailing in all weathers thanks to her cutter rig with self-tacking staysail, and remain dry in the confines of the cockpit thanks to the hard-top bimini and clear side panels which block out the weather (but allow access to the winches).

Gondwana is an incredibly safe, solid and well built cruising yacht. She is registered as an Australian Ship and would would suit a liveaboard global cruising couple. She is built like a bullet-proof machine with a comfortable and practical layout with efficient sailing, living and safety systems.
