Czarina Blue is a fine example of the respected Nicholson 38, designed by John Alden and hand-built by Camper & Nicholson in 1973 to Lloyd's survey standard, with classic lines and proven sea-keeping. Lovingly maintained over the past eight years, she presents in very good condition.
A solid, seaworthy ketch, she has a strong stiff hull, encapsulated long keel, keel-hung rudder and protected prop, making her a capable blue-water passage-maker that is also nimble and easily sailed short-handed. She has many voyaging redundancies and has been extensively single-handed.
Originally based in the Mediterranean, she underwent a major refit in 2017 for blue-water liveaboard cruising, including re-rigging, new chain plates, lifelines, sails, through-hulls, seacocks, anchor and chain, overhauled and reglazed hatches, new gas system and stove, mains RCD, renewable energy systems, and modernised navigation and safety gear. She has since crossed oceans and served as a much-loved home while voyaging from Greece to New Zealand.
Ongoing upgrades include a Quantum slab-reefing mainsail, Webasto heating, Hydrovane wind-steering, window resealing, hull peel/epoxy/barrier coat, rebuilt rudder with new bearings, renewed shaft bearing, overhauled aft steering, Jordan series drogue with dedicated chain plates, Schenker watermaker, Furuno radar, and new cockpit skylights. The Perkins engine was fully rebuilt in 2022, with extensive rewiring completed. Recent works include full Webasto service, new raw water pump, repainted topsides, refreshed teak rail varnish, new antifouling, Propspeed, and an overhauled wooden tender.
Her protected cockpit, panoramic glass windscreen, abundant natural light, ventilation, three-cabin layout, aft-facing chart table, wet room, functional galley and ample storage make her a comfortable and practical liveaboard.
She is ready to cruise, with Rocna anchor, 10mm chain, solar, watermaker, heating, and a tender that motors, rows and sails.
