With a heavy heart, I'm putting my beloved Seeadler up for sale. She's more than just a boat--she's a vessel with soul, history, and a serious offshore pedigree. Built in 1976, Seeadler is one of the most well-known Contessa 26s out there, and for good reason.
I am her third owner. Since her launch, she's only had three devoted caretakers--each one refining her seaworthiness for serious offshore passage-making:
The first owner sailed her from Canada to Cuba and back.
The second owner completed a transatlantic voyage from Canada to Africa and back.
I, the third owner, just completed a solo voyage from Eastern Canada to Queensland, Australia--over 14 months at sea, unassisted. A video of my 39 day sail from Panama to French Polynesia can be watched here:

Every owner has made thoughtful upgrades with long-distance singlehanded sailing in mind. This is not a boat with mystery issues or neglected systems--everything onboard works and has been maintained or upgraded with care. Below is a list of major equipment and improvements through the years:
---
Equipment & Upgrades
2001
Yanmar 1GM10 diesel engine (approx. 2,000 hours)
Monitor windvane self-steering
JRC radar
SeaRanger depth sounder
Garmin 152 GPS plotter
Mainsheet traveller relocated forward for easier singlehanding
Spray skirts and leecloths added
2002
Seawater-cooled fridge installed under V-berth
2022
175W Renogy solar panel + two spare 50W emergency panels
Renogy MPPT solar charge controller
2023
400W inverter
Origo alcohol stove (safe and reliable cooking)
ICOM handheld VHF + AIS receiver
Mast re-wired: new spreader lights + new tri-color/anchor light at masthead
New engine water pump
2024
New ProFurl headsail furler
New headsail and genoa (Vectron fabric)
Cutlass bearing replaced
Deck paint and non-skid redone
2025 (recent refit)
Topside paint (International Perfection Pro - mint green over faired gelcoat)
Third pintle/gudgeon added to rudder for extra strength
Thru-hulls removed, inspected, and re-bedded (3 total)
Stuffing box repacked
Two coats of Micron antifouling
New automatic Rule bilge pump
New Whale manual bilge pump
---
Other Details
Rigging is over 20 years old but shows no corrosion or wear. I safely crossed the Pacific with it and am currently fully insured with comprehensive coverage despite the rig's age. Re-rigging a 26-footer is simple and affordable should you wish to update it.
The hull was recently sanded to gelcoat and painted mint green, giving her a fresh, clean look above the waterline.
There are no nasty surprises. She was just out of the water for her most recent refit and inspection.
---
I am selling because I am in the market for a bigger, but similar boat.
This boat is turn-key and ready for another ocean crossing. She's small, yes--but incredibly capable and tough, with a long track record to prove it.
Serious inquiries only. Feel free to reach out with questions or to arrange a viewing.
