What is the Golden Globe yacht race?
The Golden Globe Race is a solo, nonstop yacht race around the world with no assistance and without the use of modern technology.
This means the skippers can't use GPS, chartplotters, electric winches, autopilots, mobile phones, iPads or use synthetic materials like Spectra, Kevlar or Vectron.
Their only means of communication is via registered, licensed maritime-approved HF Single Side Band (SSB) Radio, with discussions generally limited to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) weather. They are allowed to listen to HAM radio, but are not allowed to transmit.

The Aries was selected as a suitable competitor based on era of design, design, proven robustness, encapsulated keel, easily managed by a solosailor, strength amongst other recognised attributes.

The Airies 32ft Yacht was built in Taiwan to a traditional design by Thomas Gilmer. "Harmony" was originally exported to the US and later sailed from San Francisco to Australia where she has had a major refurbishment in preparation for her shipping to France and participation in the 2022 GGR, for a number of personal and logistical reasons she was unable to be shipped to France in time for the start and consequently did not participate.
