***** Ventura is ready to sail without any work! See latest photos. *****

'Ventura' has been built by Jack Wear, he started in 1946 and she was launched in 1947. See PDF attchment for the full history of Ventura.

Ventura has been antifouled (October 22), engine oil and filters changed and she is ready and fully equipped* for an extended offshore cruise.

She is a meticulously maintained, stable and seaworthy cutter-rigged ketch with a long keel, built around 1946. She is listed by the Classic Yacht Association of Australia. The new owner can confidently sail her away without any further work or purchase of equipment. She is not like a plastic boat but is a delight for a lover of vintage wooden boats. Her wide decks make for safe movement in a seaway and her cosy cabin is comfortable without luxury.

Extensive work has been done over the years since the current owner purchased her in 2005, fully renovated the hull and rigging and installed a new motor. Further significant work was done in 2020 (removal and full workshop refurbishment of motor, modification of cabin furniture, painting of masts, renewal of standing rigging and new LED navigation lights on main mast and new wiring to both masts). She comes with extensive essential spare parts.

Her hull is constructed of 1 ¼ inch NZ Kauri planks on laminated spotted gum frames with extensive bracing and stringers. The inevitable leakage into her vintage timber hull is dealt with by a dual automatic bilge pumping arrangement with built in redundancy which has proved very reliable. The owner has maintained and progressively improved the hull and cabin top. The cabin top and decks are sheathed in fibreglass making the topsides entirely water-tight.

The current owner has sailed her extensively around Port Phillip and Westernport Bays, the Victorian Coast and Tasmania. She can be easily sailed single-handed in enclosed waters. She is equipped for off-shore cruising broadly based on ORC rules for offshore racing.

The owner will be pleased to supply full maintenance records, equipment manuals and the most recent professional survey (2011).
Inspection and a demonstration sail strictly by appointment to those genuinely interested in purchasing Ventura.

Ventura is kept on a swing mooring in the very sheltered waters of Swan Bay (Queenscliff) and the owner is willing to sell the mooring tackle and transfer the mooring lease to a new owner for a negotiable sum in the vicinity of $17 000.

* Some equipment (such as her life raft, inflatable tender and life jackets) is being sold separately from the yacht and may be of interest to the new owner. A full inventory of equipment to be sold with the yacht and proposed to be sold separately can be provided to genuinely interested purchasers and price can be negotiated.
