OVERVIEW

Son of a Son is a Farr 1104, launched in 1994 with enhanced stability, a Farr 37 keel and a high-performance rudder giving substantially better control in hard running and reaching conditions, and improved performance to windward. She rates well under IRC, ORCi and AMS, and her enhanced stability index of 115.6 makes her eligible for Category 1 offshore racing.

The structural refit was completed in 2023 to prepare her for the Sydney to Hobart, and the interior renovated in 2025 -- adding all the cruising comforts to a proven offshore racer. The hard work has been done.

For the racer: a Cat 1-certified Sydney Hobart veteran. Full racing wardrobe of nearly-new sails, and new standing and running rigging.

For the cruiser: a freshly-painted interior, lithium house power, an upgraded fridge/freezer, and a new anchor winch. The current owners spent four weeks living aboard cruising the east coast late last year.

Equally at home on a Category 1 race start line, a long weekend at Moreton Bay, or as a liveaboard cruiser heading north.

RACE RECORD

Two Sydney to Hobart completions (2023, and 1997 under previous ownership). Recent results include 2nd in Division 2 at the 2023 Brisbane to Gladstone, and a finish in the 2024 Surf to City.

Bruce Farr has won more Sydney-Hobart races than any other designer. The 1104 has been campaigning successfully at club and offshore level for decades, regularly featuring on the podium across IRC, ORCi and AMS divisions.
