The Dolphin is a very practical 9.8m, full keel, cutter rigged, custom aluminium yacht. Rugged and easy to sail, not flashy but solid, honest and trustworthy. What you see is what you get - If you enjoy sailing and want a sound, seaworthy vessel you will appreciate The Dolphin. She has everything you need to set sail and start cruising inshore or offshore.
Designed by Alseemgeest & Seeger Yacht Designs in Melbourne in the 1970's, the plans were usually made in timber, they redrew the plans to suit an aluminium construction as requested by the first owner, Mr L Gwyther. The Dolphin was fabricated in aluminium, purchased by Peter Brown (previous owner) as an unfinished hull in 2000. It was fitted out and first launched in 2002. The Dolphin has proven herself a seaworthy vessel in all conditions and has cruised extensively in Bass Strait and the East Coast of Australia.
In 2012 The Dolphin was single handed from Phillip Island, Victoria to Cairns, Queensland and return and required less than 20 hours of hand steering over the 3500NM journey. From 2002 -2015 The Dolphin was raced out of New Haven Yacht Squadron, Victoria. Winning 2008 club championship on handicap, many inshore races and 3-time winner of Around Phillip Island Race (offshore).
I purchased The Dolphin in 2019. Added many creature comforts for extended cruising and upgraded the ground tackle. Two new lithium batteries were installed along with 500w of solar power. The engine was almost entirely rebuilt after seizing just after purchase at 950hrs. In 2020 my partner and I moved aboard fulltime. We sailed to Queensland and then up and down the coast several times. The boat is now set up as a fulltime live aboard/for cruising and has been my partner and I's home for the past 5 years.
We are regretfully selling her as we are expecting a baby. The Dolphin is currently anchored in 1770 QLD, an excellent launch pad for exploring the QLD coast. She is due to be taken out of the water for antifouling, an anode change and replace the stern gland packing. Last out of water in August 2022. Other than this she is ready to sail wherever you want.
Thanks to the previous owners, receipts of all work and manuals for all the onboard systems are available. Along with paper charts for the whole East Coast of Australia
