Engine overhauled in Moody 44 in ready to go condtion, currently cruising down the East Coast of the USA. The 1994 Moody 44 is a classic center-cockpit cruiser, well-regarded for its robust build quality and spacious, comfortable layout, ideal for blue-water cruising. Designed by Bill Dixon, it boasts a high freeboard, a deep fin keel, and a balanced rig, giving it impressive stability and a smooth ride even in challenging conditions. Specification and InventoryEngine and mechanical Volvo MD22L engine with shaft drive and fixed three blade propeller. Overhaul completed in 2023.
Current engine hours 4810, hours at overhaul 4770. Engine serviced November 2024
Engine overhaul information:
Engine removed and dismantled. Block and crankshaft inspected by the engineer, measurements were all still within new tolerance so the bores were polished and also the crankshaft journals. New rings and shells installed. Injectors serviced. Heat exchanger pressure tested. New water circulation pump. Oil pump refurbished with new gears, new oil pressure switch. New overheat sensor. New exhaust elbow. New hoses. New engine mountings and new filters and belts.

Last generator service April 2022 at 837 hours.

Hull Coppercoat was redone in 2020.
Just one skin fitting has been changed, 2017 the aft heads, the seacock too. Also the starboard cockpit drain seacock was replaced in 2022.

When the second owner decommissioned the cutter I think the Yankee was rested along with the staysail. I suppose the Genoa was then put in service, but I don't know when that was.
The cruising chute may well be younger. She had been delivered to the first owner cutter rigged. The subsequent owners had removed the inner fore stay for ease of handling.
We reinstated the cutter rig, all the parts had been handed over. She has 'diamond stays' aloft so no need for running back stays. ""

'Watt and Sea' hydro generator was installed and a 'Silent Wind' wind turbine.
The batteries were replaced with AGM's, capacity 330 Ah and an inverter (1500watt) was installed.
The original 40 Amp battery charger was replaced by two Sterling chargers totalling 100 Amps.
AIS was fitted, sending and receiving.
A corrian style (not actual corrian) work surface installed in the galley.
A new GN Espace three burner cooker was fitted and isotherm drawer fridge (air cooled) and isotherm chest freezer ( keel cooled) were installed.
A deck pump out facility was added to the already installed holding tank.
A Spectra water maker was also installed.
60 meters of new 10mm anchor chain acquired and a deck wash pump fitted to clean the chain as it comes up.
Multiple cabin fans are fitted.
