Pearson 424: Cutter rigged Sloop $69,000 USD

Romance is currently on the hard stand in Rebak Island Marina Resort, in Langkawi, Malaysia. She has been based here in Langkawi for several years, where she has more recently been a seasonal cruising home for the long-term owners of 30 years. They have always stored her well, in dry dock during the wet season here, and returned for the dry season Nor-easter cruising season, where they have sailed the coast of Malaysia and Thailand.

Very much loved and very well maintained, she has recently had her engine checked and run (on the hard) and her fridge serviced, as well as instruments up and running. There is very little to do to get this girl back where she belongs, on the ocean, and her owner has priced her competitively and realistically for a quick sale.
This William Shaw design is considered by many knowledgeable yachtsmen to be one of the best cruising designs in the 42' size range. With good looks at dockside, at anchor, and underway, the Pearson 424 is also a good performer. The interior is a master work of comfortable spaces and functional layout, and you will be impressed by some of her unique features. Her cockpit is wide and roomy, with space to relax, or entertain, with the added feeling of safety, nestled in the sunken square shaped cockpit. The aft is beamy and the space behind the steering room is unlike any other mono hulls of this size.
She has 2 entrance ways, the main entrance from the cockpit leads down the steps into the aft double berth, (to port) and the midships facing Navigation station to Starboard. This entire section of the boat can be made private from the rest of the boat, if desired, by the use of the door, which leads into the saloon.
Walking through the door, there is large U-shaped galley to port, complete with a top opening fridge, a 3-burner stove, and a microwave. Across to port is the head with large separate shower stall. The main salon has straight settees port and starboard with a centreline folding table for dining. There is a separate entrance into the main salon from the deck on the starboard side and a diesel oil heater ( that will need hooking up again as it has not been used in the tropics) on starboard bulkhead. So the potential is there for the higher latitude sailing.
The forward cabin has large V berth with storage lockers, drawers and cabinets port and starboard. There was originally a concealed head installed in the V berth, but the current owners have dismantled it. However, the plumbing and even the toilet itself is still there if the new owners wish to re-instate it. There is a private wash basin in the Vberth also.
There is plenty of storage throughout!
Below is an exert from the designer's website, and I am sure his passion for his boats, their strength, practicality, and performance will also really impress you. Please let me know if you wish us to send you current videos, ( including of the engine running after servicing March 2023) and we look forward to assisting you if you wish to make a viewing appointment.

Bill Shaw, the designer of The Pearson 424 calls this: "The boat for the real sailor. "

"Over 40 feet is where a designer can have some real fun. The cubic footage you're working with allows you to let all the creative juices flow. It's no longer a case of "It's gotta go here because that's where it fits. " In short, it gives me all kinds of choices.
The new 424 is a beautiful example of what I'm talking about. First of all, the overall length has allowed me to offer two companionways below. One leads directly from the cockpit into the owners' cabin and navigation centre. The second, amidships, leads into the main salon.
Then there's the matter of the forward stateroom. Normally, in a tri-cabin boat, that's where your friends sleep. So why not make that end as appealing as the owner's stateroom aft, including a place to wash up? We succeeded with this boat.
The middle is where most of the after-sundown action is. It not only houses the food and drink but more often than not, it turns into the equivalent of a cosy den where everybody sort of sits around with their feet up chewing the fat about everything from the day's sail to next years' ski trip. So, it makes sense to combine the efficiencies required in a shipboard galley with the homey comfort of a country kitchen. You know, the sort of place that encourages elegant cuisine, conversation and catnaps.
Finally, I've raced a lot in my day and that old competitive spirit keeps rearing up. Even in a cruising boat, who wants to be looking for the channel when your friends have got the hook and ice bucket ready to go simultaneously. So, the 424 is deceptively quick. I see the 424 as the boat for the real sailor who not only knows what he wants but is aware that often times your competence is judged not only by the way you sail, but what you sail.
