"Mercedes IV", designed and first owned by the famous yacht designer Ted Kaufman and built by the great timber specialist Cec Quilkey.
Built from King Billy pine and dynal sheathed. She was built in 1974, as part of the Australian Admirals Cup team along side "Love and War" and "Bumblebee III". She competed in many offshore races. Winning the CYCA Blue water championship in '85 and competing in many Syd- Hob races where her strength and build quality saw her safely to the finish line for many years including the infamous 1998, where she finished 2nd in the Veteran division and 13th overall.

Having sailed on her for this photo shoot, you could really feel the history and her sea qualities come to life. Her light helm was so well balanced not seen in just any boat. She would glide through the water closed hauled without any one near the helm. Mercedes IV has soul and character, instantly felt once under sail. The recently replaced Yanmar engine had been moved for better balance and performance.

She has been berthed at the CYCA and through lack of use, the owners are regrettably selling. Someone will fall in love with this gem and let her stretch her legs once more. The mast and boom have been repainted and rigging also replaced. The chain plates arguably over engineered which add to the safety and strength once more. Below deck there are many comfortable berths, large navigation station and a galley bigger than any modern production boat.
Mercedes IV could happily slip back in to offshore racing mode, family twilight's or family weekends away as she is very roomy below deck.
