'Solquest' ("Follow the Sun") is a rare and special bluewater pilothouse cruising yacht. Marine architect of renown, Robert H. Perry (USA) designed this beautiful vice-free performance hull featuring a sheltered centre-cockpit, two helm stations (cockpit and saloon/pilot-house), a delightful aft-cabin with ensuite, a spacious saloon incorporating galley, leather-upholstered dinette, pilot berths with another private double cabin and bathroom forward.
Master shipwright, Garry Smedley (Tasmania) crafted this fine vessel. In the words of the highly qualified surveyor, 'Smedley had a reputation for building vessels to a standard that far exceeded normal boat building practice using robust specifications and the best materials available including especially selected timbers for bluewater sailing'. The timbers selected for 'Solquest' included Huon Pine (strip planked) for the immensely strong hull, Mahogany for cabin sides and below-deck cabinetry and Beech for the decks.
"Solquest" has thousands of sea miles under her keel. With an in-mast furling main, furling genoa and cockpit sail management, a couple safely and efficiently handles her. Auxiliary power is provided by a well-maintained 124 hp 6-cylinder Perkins diesel with hydraulic direct drive transmission/gearbox driving a sophisticated HUNDESTED variable pitch propeller. Her long range, blue-water cruising capabilities are evidenced by tankage (approx. 800 litres of water and 1200 litres of fuel) and storage spaces (boat equipment, spars, foods, crew gear).
The array of electronics, (communication, navigation and vessel management) is impressive with plenty of built-in redundancy. Every piece of equipment has been proven over many thousands of nautical miles of sailing time and reflects the owner's passion for excellence with nothing but the highest quality equipment installed.
This truly magnificent cruising yacht has been (and is) maintained without compromise. To quote the surveyor again. ' "Solquest" has been fortunate in having an experienced owner who has been fastidious in his approach to further development together with upgrades as well as continuous maintenance, consequently she is currently in an excellent seaworthy condition'.
Solquest features in the SBS Food Series "Gourmet Farmer Afloat". Click Special Presentation below for a link to the series.

Accommodation
Step aboard via the midship gates onto the laid Beech decks. The decks are wide and uncluttered. From the stern note the hatch access to the owners' aft cabin. The sheltered centre-cockpit, apart from offering a great vantage point from which to run the vessel, with cushioned seating and foldaway table, is where the crew will relax and dine when at anchor. Below deck, the striking polished mahogany cabinetry together with the teak and holly sole and the large side windows and hatch gives off an ambience of cosy understated luxury. Smedley's timberwork is simply superb. To starboard of the companionway is internal access to the aft stateroom with its island queen double bed, a single pilot berth, built-in lockers, vanity unit and an ensuite. To port (of the companionway is a U-shaped leather lounge (8-seater) around the large dining table, which can be swivelled amidships. Opposite is another pilot berth. The comprehensively equipped navigation station (with a fixed leather seat) is immediately aft of the helm station. The full service galley is to port within easy reach of the dinette. Step down two steps to a passageway to the forward, double berth V cabin. The second bathroom is port-side of the passage with hanging lockers and drawers opposite. Crew comfort is enhanced by the Webasto Airtop diesel heater (ducted throughout).
There is sufficient storage above and below for a full crew on extended cruises. Likewise, there is plenty of freshwater (800 litres) and fuel (1200 litres).
