The 50% share on offer represents outstanding value for money. The co-owner, who is now well into his retirement, no longer sails the boat but still enjoys spending time aboard, pottering around, and taking care of small maintenance tasks. This means you'll have almost exclusive use of the vessel.
To make the offer even more appealing, you'll only pay $100 per month in pen fees -- a remarkably low cost for such an arrangement. It's a deal that's almost too good to be true.
You're not just buying a share in any S&S 34 -- Bluebell was launched and originally owned by the legendary Max Shean himself!
Max Shean was a highly decorated war hero who served aboard the corvette HMS Bluebell (Flower-class) on Atlantic convoy escort duties from mid-1941, facing relentless U-boat attacks. His contributions to the Fremantle Sailing Club were equally remarkable -- so much so that the club named one of its start boats, as well as a race, in his honour. The trusty ex-cray boat Max Shean remains in regular service at the club to this day.
The S&S 34 is a design that needs no introduction. Favoured by many renowned single-handed circumnavigators, this yacht boasts exceptional offshore pedigree and a reputation for strength, speed, and seaworthiness.
Bluebell has an impressive offshore pedigree, having completed a number of significant passages and competed in several iconic bluewater races.
In 1978-79, she was sailed from Fremantle to Plymouth in the UK via the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean, France, and Scotland to take part in the Parmelia Race. The race began in Plymouth and carried the fleet all the way back to Fremantle via Cape Town -- a true test of endurance and seamanship.
Later, in 1987, Bluebell competed in the Cocos Island Race, where she claimed first place in the cruising division.
Bluebell has been set up to be simple and dependable, without being overburdened by power-hungry electrical systems.
Below deck, the interior is finished in light timbers that give the cabin a bright, welcoming feel. A clever design feature is the large dining table, which folds neatly away against the bulkhead to maximise space when it's not required.
The galley in basic and functional. The two burner kero stove is all you need to cook a good basic meal or boil the jug, and you don't have to worry about the safety concerns associated with having gas onboard. The refrigeration is a is a very unique and clever design. It works by filling the fridge half full of water, plugging it into shore power, and it will make a solid 60kg block of ice. Then depending on ambient temperature, the ice can hold the fridge down for up to four weeks without consuming a single amp of power.
Bluebell is powered with a very nice 30hp Yanmar with only 190 hours on the clock. She has great wardrobe of sails and is ready to get out on the water and enjoy.
