Escape Velocity is exclusively for sale with DBY Boat Sales and is a beautiful example of this 48ft Sparkman and Stephens Design and built by the Famous North American yard Bennett Brothers. This amazing vessel has just arrived into Australia and is on the market and she is incredible.
This large volume, centre cockpit fast cruiser is built for serious and safe long term blue water adventure.
She has been sailed in from the American Northeast by an Australian couple. Set up for shorthanded or even singlehanded sailing she has a boom furling main, furling headsail with powerful electric winches. Her autopilot is over specified to ensure accurate and positive course keeping.
The interior will invite you into a world of great space and light. Her lounge area can accommodate up to 10 around a large opening table. The table itself is a beautiful piece of art which is in keeping with the remainder of the extensive high-end timber fit out typical of the S&S designs of the era.
Accommodation wise the 48ft length and large volume has contributed to achieving good headroom throughout including passageways.
The aft stateroom is to die for with a full queen size double island bed with an attached ensuite with shower. Of course, here is tons of cupboard space and storage in the cabins and in fact throughout the boat. Forward there is a second full double cabin once again with ensuite.
The main cabin lounge area coverts easily to another double or can be used at sea for the best port and starboard lee berths that one could hop for when on extended passage.
The well-appointed galley is U shaped so you can lock yourself in. On the opposite side is a well-proportioned navigation station with all safety and navigation equipment to hand.
On deck there is a wonderfully protected centre cockpit with great all-around visibility. The owners told me that they just don't see water up there. Plenty of room to spread out in the cockpit or on the rear deck.
One huge advantage of this model is the shallow wing keel at 48ft long but just 6ft 6inch draft. This has been achieved by a large wing keel.
The lead wing is flat on the bottom so fantastic for the odd accidental touch and go moment when exploring shallow anchorages. Having the lead down low has led to a very stiff and stable design with shallow draft in stark contrast to the modern pop out boats with steel keels that must go much deeper to try to match.
Escape Velocity is the real deal and a walk up fully equipped start for new owners wanting to head off on the dream adventure.
