Designed by Ron Swanson as a capable and comfortable Bluewater Cruiser, the Swanson 36 remains highly sought after. The Full keel with keel-hung rudder for directional stability and protection, paired with solid fiberglass construction has given them an excellent reputation for their reliability and seaworthiness. Many of these capable Australian designed and built vessels have cruised extensively including full circumnavigations. "Pendulum" is a unique and very impressive example of the design. Built in the Swanson yard to a very high standard by a Swanson employee as his own yacht, the cockpit was built further aft to allow for a significantly larger main cabin. A professional teak internal fit out was then completed by renown shipwright John Arends, to create a stunning vessel, as step above a standard Swanson 36. Instead of the standard single spreader rig, a double spreader mast was installed to allow a true cutter design with two furling headsails - the ideal set up for serious offshore sailing. The current highly experienced owner purchased the vessel in 1998. Since then he has enjoyed four extended cruises from Hobart into the Western Pacific (New Zealand, Tonga, Western Samoa, Wallis Island, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, and New Caledonia), mostly single handed. Well maintained and very well set up for easy shorthanded sailing, this vessel presents an excellent opportunity to enjoy a well equipped and comfortable yacht, capable of fulfilling even the most ambitious sailing aspirations!
Stepping inside, the spacious saloon has a warm and welcoming ambience. The quality of the teak fitout is superb, and gives the vessel a traditional feel. To starboard is the generous dinette, with seating for 8 in comfort on the neatly upholstered settees. The galley is well set up for preparing meals at sea, and is midships for the most comfortable motion. This is fully equipped with a 2 burner gas stove with oven, double bowl stainless steel sinks with pressurised fresh water, top loading fridge, and plenty of storage. The accommodation is ideal for cruising with family and friends and features a double v-berth forward, two single quarter berths aft, and two single settee berths in the saloon. The package is complete with a private bathroom with toilet and vanity.
On deck, the cockpit is deep, safe, and well protected by the spray dodger. The vessel is very well set up for shorthanded sailing with the mainsail in a boom bag with lazy jacks, two furling headsails, Raymarine autopilot, wind vane steering system, and quality self tailing winches. There is easy access forward around the wide side decks, and plenty of space to relax and enjoy the views.
This vessel is powered by a well maintained and reliable Witchards (marinised Kubota) 35HP diesel engine with only 1700hrs on the clock. This provides easy and economical cruising at 5 to 6 knots.
With its classic lines, capability, and comfort, this Swanson 36 is one not to miss! For more information please call Jo Breen on or Jack Allison on .
