Our charming wooden motor sailer, Picaroon, is seeking a new owner.
Picaroon has been part of our lives since 1975 and was lovingly maintained for decades. In recent years, however, advancing age and health challenges have led to a period of reduced upkeep.
Designed by US naval architect, SS Rabl, this classic sea kindly vessel has strong bones, timeless character, and tremendous potential. She will appeal to someone who truly appreciates traditional wooden boats and is looking for a rewarding restoration project.
Built on the Gold Coast, Picaroon has enjoyed an extensive sailing life--cruising the waters of Moreton Bay, Stradbroke Island and Southport; exploring Pittwater, Broken Bay and the Hawkesbury River; and, in more recent years, navigating the Swan River along with several voyages to Rottnest and Carnac Island.
Picaroon is an enchanting 5.5-metre wooden motor-sailer, featuring classic lines and a solid stripped-plank hull.
For her size, she has proven to be a staunch and seaworthy vessel, confidently handling a range of coastal conditions.
This is a genuine restoration opportunity, ideally suited to someone who appreciates traditional timber boats, enjoys hands-on projects, and is seeking a manageable vessel to return to her former glory.
The hull remains in good condition for its age and has been continuously kept afloat. The plywood deck and cabin top, however, have developed several soft spots and now require restoration. The 6hp Yanmar PMX 6 diesel engine is currently not running, with the cylinder head removed for reconditioning; all removed parts are boxed and included.
Picaroon is not a trailerable boat and will require a mooring or pen.
