'Laika' was designed by Van De Stadt and built in the Netherlands by the prestigious Anne Wever shipyard. After crossing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, spending some time in NZ and cruising the east coast of Australia Laika was purchased by her current owners with the intention of taking her back to Europe.
In 2021, Laika departed Rosslyn Bay in Australia and now lies in San Giorgio di Nogaro, Italy. With fond memories of sailing the far reaches of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, Africa, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece, Croatia and Italy it is with heavy hearts Laika's owners offer her for sale.
Laika is an extremely capable, safe and comfortable blue water vessel that is equipped to spend several months without the need for onshore provisioning. This is made possible by her large fuel and water capacity, water maker, 228L deep freezer, washing machine, generator, solar and Lithium batteries. Laikas' hydraulic furler, oversized deck gear and self tailing winches make her a simple and forgiving boat to sail. While sailing is the real joy, Laikas' 125hp turbo Yanmar also allows her to motor economically without compromising speed.
In 2021 ahead of her international voyage Laika underwent a 6-month refit in Australia where she had her original teak and GRP deck removed and replaced with a new GRP deck incorporating a closed cell foam core, Thermolite reinforcement and all new hatches. The same year she had a custom hardtop built with new clears, sunshades and polycarbonate screen, her standing rigging replaced, aft head converted to washing machine freezer and storage room, a new suite of B&G electronics and many upgrades to comfort and liveability.
In 2023 ahead of her Indian ocean crossing Laika's batteries were upgraded to lithium. At the same time her owners purchased a new genoa, mizzen and full waterproof shade covers.
For the next couple of months Laika's owners remain in Italy and are willing to share everything they know about living aboard and maintaining her.
Laika was antifouled in March 2024 and is truly 'ready to go' wherever her new owners dream to take her.
