Whitby 42 Ketch

She is a true classic ketch designed by Ted Brewer, offering superb live aboard accommodations. Ted Brewer is widely recognized as one of the most outstanding sailboat designers of all time. The Whitby 42 is arguably his most commercially successful design. Jai Dee was manufactured in Canada in 1982. The Whitby Boatworks in Ontario manufactured approximately 200 of these classic ketch rigged boats before it closed in 1988.


The strength of Jai Dee's design clearly lies in her accommodations which one reviewer described as luxurious. There are spacious staterooms forward and aft, and both have large adjoining heads with showers. The "U" shaped galley is large and perfectly positioned to keep passengers and crew out of the way of the cook. The spacious galley includes a double sink, separate refrigeration and freezer compartments, and plenty of usable counter space. Besides that, there is a large saloon and comfortable navigation station. Jai Dee has the walk-through design between the aft cabin and the main saloon. There is even a work bench along the passageway between the navigation station and aft stateroom. Both the forward and aft heads each have new electric toilets. The v-berth is plenty big enough for two full-sized adults. The aft cabin has 6' 2" headroom, a large double bed and the full head including shower.


The Whitby 42 is unquestionably regarded as one of the most livable production boats ever manufactured. Jai Dee offers a good value. It has been properly outfitted, sailed and maintained, and is capable of taking you to great cruising destinations.
