Custom built Mackcraft / TOTAL Tasmanian, back to bare hull rebuild restoration 2020
Freelance has been completely reconfigured with new house and decking, plus hull extension to bring it in to today's thinking and easy boarding
Concave /Convex strip plank mahogany construction over laminated frames [ HEAVILY GLASSED FROM NEW]
Best of both worlds... It has the feel comfort, design, appearance of a timber vessel with out the hull maintenance of a traditionally planked vessel
All of the work was a collaboration between the owner who is a self confessed perfectionist, plus boating tragic, and one of KETTERING'S own and best recognised boat builder/ craftsman ANGELO PERRY

This can no longer be considered a 1983 vessel. A detailed and comprehensive pictorial album of the restoration has been recorded and is now part of the ships documents.

If you think that the restoration just finishes at the interior then take a look at the engine space. Every part of the engine and the sevices are completely accessible, and beautifully presented. Clean dry bilges on a timber boat, now that's a nice change.

Freelance has been completely rewired and completely re plumbed. Nothing of the old services and chandlery remains

Big fuel and water capacity means that you can go, to and stay in those remote places with out re provisioning concerns.

Being a full displacement vessel there is a full keel with running gear and rudder completely protected. [ as it should be]

Freelance is a large vessel with a full 17 ft beam, and it has the horsepower to push it. This boat has been correctly engined with a 215 HP Cummins marine diesel, which are a respected easy and uncomplicated engine to maintain and source parts for. Most mechanics are familiar and comfortable to work with this brand.

The proportionally high and flared bow keep this boat dry from green water in heavy conditions. The pleasing sheer-line that rises gracefully to the bow is refreshing and practical. Seems that's a bit of a lost art with today's designs.

The hull extension at the stern has made the boat in to a very practical and usable vessel. The tender is mounted high enough to see under at rest and it does not impede boarding the vessel. This is truly a well thought out and constructed aspect of Freelance. A perfect blend of form / function and tradition all working in harmony.

If you want for more than a production vessel. If you are the person that understands and appreciates a vessel that is hand crafted and restored regardless of the cost. Then this one deserves your consideretion.

The quality and the simplicity of the vessel is apparent as soon as you step aboard. The interior is subtle and oozes practicality and beauty. The life time of experience in boats and on the water is obvious on the owners behalf. This is the culmination and the result of that lifetime.
The saloon layout is uncluttered, elegant quietly comfortable and stylish. There is nothing that is out of place or out of proportion.

The dining table is solid Huon Pine and the balance of the fit out by Tasmanian craftsmen is constructed in Celery top pine

The starboard helm position has a large opening sliding door with upstand [of course] that opens on to wide walk around decks making this an easy boat to be on, and an easy vessel to berth for all ages.

The aft deck space is large, yet proportional to the rest of the vessel and easy access is provided with twin sliding aluminium ventilated doors. This opens up to the saloon up with uninterrupted free flowing spaces for family and friends. The aft deck is completely shaded with easy to use side curtains and access.
The full 360 degree vision from the helm is excellent and gives confidence to the captain when manoeuvring and berthing. Made all the easier with both bow and stern thrusters.

Remarks
The last photo in this series is a pic of my Stormboy 5. Its just a bit of a coincidence that at this end of my long boating life that i have ended up with a vessel that is strip planked, aft wheelhouse, long range, single engine, big horsepower aft covered cockpit, full keel full walk around decks with shade, easy boat to get on and off. JUST LIKE FREELANCE. My boat is not for sale at any price because if they are in immaculate condition they are extremely rare.
