With a stellar reputation for build quality and cruising performance, the Grand Banks 36 saw fantastic popularity and success throughout its production life. A common sight across Australian waterways and cruising grounds, these 36's are fantastically suited to cruising with family and friends thanks to a wonderfully spacious saloon, large open-plan galley and plenty of accommodation. The GB36 hull is often considered a benchmark in displacement design, proving itself as economical and comfortable in various sea states. Its ability to fast cruise in the low teens makes it a very versatile package, providing the ability to pick up the pace when the conditions fall less favourable. Saga presents in excellent condition inside and out, benefiting from a range of thoughtful upgrades throughout its lifespan.
The saloon is one of many highlights, benefiting from plenty of natural light and open plan floor space. The port side hosts an abnormally large L-shape settee, seating 4 around a folding timber dinette, while there is additional seating for at least 4 to starboard. The galley sits forward of the saloon with acres of bench space, a 2-burner gas stove and oven, stainless steel sink and great storage. Adjacent and to starboard is the lower helm, featuring a Raymarine multifunction plotter, radar, autopilot, windlass controls and a plethora of engine instrumentation, while a side access door makes for easier handling.
The accommodation space is generous with a large double berth to starboard and a forward V-berth where an insert creates another double berth. The head is spacious with an electric marine toilet, vanity, storage and shower.
The engine room is easy to access with large removable floor panels below the galley and lower helm floor. A pair of Volvo TAMD40 165hp diesel engines provides economical and reliable cruising at 8-9 knots, consuming 17L/hr combined. With NEW alternators and a NEW starter motor, plus numerous other upgrades, this vessel presents as a reliable cruiser.
A deep and spacious cockpit features a sink and outdoor shower, while a chest freezer sits below the stairway to the flybridge. The flybridge benefits from plenty of floor space and a full set of PVC clears, making this space usable all year round in colder climates. Great lounge seating makes this space comfortable, while a second flybridge helm sports a fish finder and a second set of controls and accompanying engine instrumentation.
The decks are in great condition, with full walk-around access fore and aft. The lower helm access door is a great feature when manoeuvring in tight proximities, while the teak finishes dress the cap rails and door frames beautifully. With moulded GRP non-skid decks, Saga aims for practical usability and low exterior maintenance.
With unmistakable Grand Banks lines, Saga presents in excellent condition throughout as a well-loved family vessel, perfect for cruising Australian waters. With their commendable production success, the 36 offers so much for its size and Saga is a fantastic example of it, featuring large living spaces and great performance for its class. Presented in excellent condition, Saga is turn-key ready for more cruising.
