Outer Reef Yachts has built a strong reputation for creating capable, ocean-going motor yachts designed around comfortable long-range cruising, practical layouts and dependable offshore performance. The 2006 Outer Reef 650 'Clancy' is an excellent example of the marque, offering generous living spaces, extensive outdoor entertaining areas and a well-appointed three-cabin layout, complemented by dedicated crew accommodation aft. With her combination of proven Caterpillar power, Naiad hydraulic fin stabilisers, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters and impressive onboard amenities, 'Clancy' is well equipped for extended cruising in comfort and with confidence.
Under her current ownership, 'Clancy' has enjoyed extensive investment and upgrades across her mechanical, electrical, navigational, hydraulic and onboard systems. From new shafts, shaft seals, starter motors and alternators through to upgraded Naiad stabilisers, new comprehensive Garmin electronics package, new Victron lithium house batteries and a new watermaker, the works have been undertaken with a clear focus on reliability, capability and cruising comfort. Combined with refreshed soft furnishings and upgraded entertainment systems, she is now presented turn-key and cruise-ready. With a CE category Ocean A safety certification combined with these extensive recent upgrades, her next owner can simply step aboard and enjoy.
Boarding is via the teak-laid swim platform, where stainless steel railings provide security around the platform, while port and starboard boarding doors provide direct access onto the wide teak-laid side decks and all the way forward to the bow. Port and starboard steps lead naturally up into the teak-laid cockpit, with wing doors on both side decks providing the flexibility to close off the cockpit when conditions become blustery. Three-sided mesh screens offer additional protection in the cockpit from sun and rain without compromising airflow or the connection with the outdoors. The cockpit features a comfortable forward-facing bench seat across the transom and high-gloss timber table, with room to add additional deck chairs when entertaining. A dedicated docking station to port places the throttle and thruster controls close at hand, complemented by a Glendinning wired engine docking remote for precise manoeuvring.
From the cockpit, two doors open into the main saloon, where Cruisair air conditioning provides year-round comfort throughout the vessel. Plush carpeting complements the warm and inviting interior, with an L-shaped lounge to port positioned opposite a TCL 40" TV. Two additional tub chairs to starboard create a relaxed seating arrangement for guests, while the generous glazing provides excellent natural light and views over the water.
Moving forward up on the pilothouse level, the spacious galley is conveniently positioned to port, allowing the chef to remain connected to the main living and entertaining areas. Its practical U-shaped configuration provides excellent bench space and storage, while the comprehensive Bosch appliance package includes an upright fridge/freezer, microwave, electric cooktop, oven and dishwasher. The elevated galley position is particularly well suited to extended cruising, keeping meal preparation integrated with the main living environment.
The pilothouse is the operational heart of 'Clancy', combining an elevated helm position with a comfortable secondary living and dining area. Triple Garmin 17" MFDs provide a comprehensive navigation suite incorporating GPS plotter, sounder, open array radar and autopilot, complemented by Garmin VHF, dual Caterpillar engine data displays and Side-Power hydraulic bow and stern thruster controls. Naiad hydraulic fin stabilisers further enhance comfort underway, making 'Clancy' particularly well suited to offshore passages. A centreline Stidd helm seat provides a commanding position at the controls, while port and starboard pilothouse doors offer convenient access out onto the side decks. Behind the helm, a settee and table create a comfortable spot to enjoy the views while underway or simply relax away from the main saloon. An internal staircase provides direct access to the flybridge above.
Stepping down to the lower accommodation level, accessed via the starboard side staircase from the pilothouse, 'Clancy' offers an impressive three guest cabin and one crew cabin accommodation configuration. The full-beam midship master suite features a king-sized bed, private ensuite and direct access into the engine room, providing an unusual level of convenience for an owner who values easy access to the vessel's machinery spaces. Forward, the VIP guest cabin is fitted with an island queen-sized bed and a private ensuite. While the portside guest cabin offers flexible accommodation with a double bed complemented by a single bunk above and its own private ensuite. Laundry facilities are also located on this level, with a stacked Bosch washing machine and Electrolux dryer making extended time aboard even more practical.
Back at the cockpit or pilothouse, there is access to the flybridge. The flybridge offers an elevated entertaining and cruising environment, with a Stidd helm seat and twin Garmin 17" MFDs providing a second command station. A hardtop provides overhead protection, while two curved settees positioned to port and starboard with their own tables create generous seating for guests. The elevated boat deck aft accommodates the as-new Highfield 3.8-metre RIB tender and MarQuipt 680kg davit. A wet bar fitted with an Isotherm bar fridge and Marine Barbeque Australia electric BBQ makes this an ideal space for outdoor dining and entertaining underway or at anchor. A stainless steel ladder provides access on top of the hardtop, where six solar panels contribute to the vessel's onboard power requirements.
Returning to the cockpit and following the teak-laid side decks forward, the bow provides another peaceful outdoor retreat with dedicated settee seating and expansive views over the water. Ground tackle is handled by a substantial Ultra stainless steel 80kg/176lb anchor, deployed via a Maxwell hydraulic windlass with 12mm stainless steel chain.
Primary access to the aft crew quarters is provided via the transom, offering a practical dedicated area separate from the main accommodation. A Husky bar fridge provides convenient cold storage, while the crew cabin features over-and-under single bunks alongside a separate bathroom. Moving forward from the crew quarters leads into the engine room, where full head height, spacious machinery spaces and a tidy, thoughtfully arranged layout provide excellent access for servicing and maintenance. Twin Caterpillar C9 diesel engines, producing 503hp each, provide dependable propulsion and a cruising range of approximately 2000nm at 9 knots, supported by Northern Lights 16KW and 8KW generators and a Stella 210LPH watermaker. The combination of full standing headroom, accessible machinery, generous working space and quality systems makes this a particularly practical engine room for an owner planning extended time aboard.
Combining Outer Reef's proven offshore cruising philosophy with generous accommodation, extensive outdoor living spaces and a comprehensive suite of cruising equipment, 'Clancy' is a capable and comfortable motor yacht ready to take her next owners further in confidence and comfort.
