The cost to date is well north of $250,000.00 But it has been done CORRECTLY.
All of the hard and COSTLY but important work has been done. Thanks to the craftsmen on the job, this hull will now be good for another 50 years. This is now a tight and dry hull with modern epoxy decks.
Throughout the restoration i have been proud to involved, and have inspected and been consulted through out the process.
Don't be fooled by the 35 ft. This is definitely a Bass Strait capable and ballasted vessel..
A Comment on the stern if i may.... This is definitely not a conventional double ender. An experienced eye will see that the beam is carried well aft, and tucks around nicely into a canoe body. This would have been needed to pull the scallop rake with plenty of buoyancy aft. This boat wont SQUAT in a following sea.
Add to that, how many 35 ft displacement boats do 8 Knots. This one does thanks to good design and Pompei, s
design experience in not dragging water behind the hull. Check out the wake in the photo of the boat running at speed.
The Vic is currently a day boat in the Gippsland lakes, but what a good time to put your stamp on the boat at this stage. This craft is very easily used and economical to run and own thanks to the good work already done.
This would make an ideal couples or single handed vessel. Yes it needs completion, but what a ripper it would be as a lifestyle vessel.
Plastic boat, owners please enjoy the photos and maybe smile at the boat tragic that parted with a quarter of a million and kept the PAYNESVILLE economy alive through Covid, but if you don't wish to be seen in a GRP moulded boat then this is definitely worth a phone call and a closer look. Hand built boats that are in restored condition are definitely in demand.
The VIC can no longer be considered an old timber boat
