The UFO 34 was designed by world-renowned naval architects Holman and Pye. The design was so successful that over 150 yachts were built in the UK and Australia. The design proved to be extremely seaworthy, and with few vices, they make excellent all-round fast cruiser/racers.

During the notorious 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race the UFO 34 Not Negotiable experienced winds in excess of 65 knots for approximately 6-8 hours. During this period breaking waves of 4-8 metres, with the occasional 12 metre wave were also encountered. Apart from one knockdown to 80 degrees, Not Negotiable had no issues and safely retired to Eden.
Six UFO 34s competed in the 1979 Fastnet race and experienced winds averaging 50 to 55 knots, gusts to 68 knots and waves as high as 50 feet. None of them sustained significant structural damage to the hull. Among the 58 boats in Class IV (34 ft), two of the six finishing yachts were UFO 34s.

The current owner purchased 'Havoc' in 1989 (35 years ago) and has spent a lot of time cruising the WA coast including trips south to Dunsborough and countless weekends at Rottnest. Over this considerable period of ownership Havoc has proven to be a safe and reliable family yacht.

The interior has a simple, yet functional layout that provides all of the necessary creature comforts for life onboard.

The saloon has a drop leaf dining table on the port side and the combined seating provides berths for three crew. The L-shaped galley is on the starboard side and features a two-burner gas stove, stainless sink, a couple of ice boxes and some good storage options. Aft of the galley is another storage area, although in the original design this was intended to be a snug single berth.

Moving forward from the saloon is the bathroom with a manual Jabsco head and handbasin. There is a custom installed black water holding tank in the forepeak, which is not standard on designs of this era, but an absolute necessity for trips to Rottnest and many other locations. This area provides valuable additional storage for sails and the like, or it has the potential to be converted into a forward cabin with a large single berth.

The cockpit has a great layout, and with numerous self-tailing winches and the mainsheet close at hand, is easily sailed by a couple or singlehanded.

The Bukh diesel engine ticks over very nicely. The engine was reconditioned and the owner estimates that it has only done 200-250 hours since the rebuild.

River sailors take note, the mast is hinged, and the boat comes with two spinnaker poles and mast lowering gear.

Havoc is ready to go and comes complete with inflatable tender and outboard motor. The Pen at FSC is available to lease by a member of the club, or by someone who would like to join the club and keep the yacht there.

At only $35k Havoc represent great value for money for a such a capable and well respected design.
