Welcome aboard a delightful Ron Swanson 28 cruising yacht. Swanson is a name that is synonymous with offshore racing and cruising in Australia and around the world, including regattas such as the prestigious Admirals Cup and the Sydney to Hobart yacht race. Swanson yachts are renowned for their excellent sea-keeping and fast passages while having comfortable interiors that provide a warm and dry haven away from the rugged conditions that may lie outside. Tarooki is a fine example of the Swanson marque; she has been well fitted with all of the cruising extras including autopilot, radar and SSB radio. Tarooki would be an excellent family weekender or coastal cruiser or a comfortable liveaboard.
Stepping from the secure deep cockpit into the cabin reveals a comfortable saloon to starboard and a large galley to port; there are a pair of quarter-berths stretching under the cockpit. Moving forward, there is an enclosed head and a comfortable V-berth; everywhere you look, there is the comfort of warm timber and a feeling of strength and tradition.
Standing in the cockpit, you feel secure and protected from the elements by the huge hard dodger; there is excellent visibility and a lovely communal sitting area. Moving forward, there are excellent handholds as you pass the dodger and reach the shrouds. The boom is fitted with roller furling for the mainsail, making raising, lowering and reefing a simple one-person exercise. The foredeck is home to a Muir Cougar windlass and an Almast headsail furler.
Powered by a 2003 Volvo Penta 28hp three-cylinder engine that has been well maintained and provides reliable service through simple engineering, the engine has only 1700 hours since it was rebuilt in 2004. Tarooki may be 28 feet long, but she has been fitted out like a much larger world cruiser with a large battery bank that is charged by solar, wind generator and the engine. Tarooki has shorepower, autopilot, radar and many other cruising luxuries.
If you want to sail, cruise, or liveaboard Tarooki is the boat for you; she has received so many big-ticket upgrades. Tarooki has cruised far and wide; in fact, some of her travels have resulted in a couple of books authored by a previous owner. Tarooki is ready and waiting for her next adventure with new rigging (2024), good sails, a strong engine and the well-respected evergreen name of the famous Swanson brothers.
