La Condesa Del Mar a stunning 23 metre Herreshoff Schooner built in Willmington Boat Yard, California completed in1996. She has an appearance from the history books with her traditional white, bright, timber and green colours.
This powerful and majestic sailing vessel spent a good part of her time sailing and racing San Francisco harbour.
La Condesa Del Mar earnt her "Blue Water" status when she registered in 2012 Pacific Puddle Jump, sailing over 8,000 Nautical miles across the Pacific Ocean from Mexico to Australia. (Taking 9 months)
Since arriving in Australia, she has graced the Queensland Coastline almost every sailing season since. She has cruised as far north as Lizard Island, competed in the Hamilton Island Race Week classic division, for three years consecutively, always returning to her sunny home port Southport Gold Coast before cyclone season each year.
La Condesa Del Mar had her interior refurbished in 2020 with the latest sunbrella soft furnishings added and styled with old world charm.
A brand new windless was installed 2022.
March 2026 she was taken to Boatworks Coomera for complete clean and antifoul, a new cutlass bearing and prop speed redone. All decks freshly painted and timbers cutback and re-varnished
A brand new self furling genoa is currently being fitted.
She has a 120 Ford Lehman motor, hydraulic steering, a 4 KVA generator and a Force 10 gas burner stove with gas shut off system.
The enclosed cockpit has a full Raymarine instrumentation panel set in timber cabinetry and a new Raymarine VHS radio replaced. The added bonus of AIS, autopilot and starlink systems all onboard for added sailing pleasure.
A custom fitted timber fold down table attached to the timber helm post with the vintage compass adding a touch of old world beauty. Behind the helm is a swim/fishing platform including davitts for the dingy and a panel for the outboard motor storage.
Side entry to below decks via highly varnished internal steps with antique brass treads takes you back in time.
To the right is the master cabin with pure wool carpet, tiled ensuite, a head and marble basin area concealed neatly behind the door to the cabin.
Moving forward is the seatee area with a library shelf at hand, varnished timber floors and lounge with feather cushions sitting opposite the mapping desk with full size map drawer and filing cabinetry.
Moving forward a small spiral stairway with stained glass detail leads you into the cosy saloon with comfortable seating surrounding the higly gloss dining table. The timber floors adjoin the complete galley with pantry cabinetry, front opening fridge, box freezer and finished with pressed metal back-splash.
Following the hallway from the saloon are the forward head and shower and a walk in room for tool storage and a watermaker. She holds 1200 litres of both water and fuel.
Matching forward cabins on port and starboard the single bunks slide out to to make 3/4 beds, Carpeted cabins with multiple storage draws and cupboards duplicated on each sides of the ship. Both have magnificent opening portholes and full opening hatches for sunshine and fresh air.
The V berth forward has its own entry for crew to come and go. It also contains the 3rd toilet and sink for privacy.
La Condesa Del Mar has stunning detail including traditional timber belaying pins her impressive 12 ft bowsprit and a stunning butterfly hatch on the housing, creating light and air in the living area below. All of these features along with her full size fighting sword on display, give her prestige and presence like no other yacht. Continued old world charm with 2 antique glass prisoms on the deck reflecting sunshine internally to the gally mid-ships.
The attention to detail and upkeep of this Majestic sailing vessel is commendable and she is prime for picking for anyone with an eye for beauty and wanting a sailing beast.
She is a head turner wherever she goes especially when her two fisherman sails are added into the sail plan.
Schooners of this class and stature are rare, she is a standout gleaming gem in any marina. La Condesa Del Mar lives up to her name meaning The Countess of the Sea, is superbly livable, totally lovable and gives back tenfold without question.
