Summary
Sparkman & Stephens design | Hall Spars carbon mast | Self-tacking jib | Awlgrip repaint 2023 | North 3Di sails and Code Zero

The Morris M36 CHAMELEON OF COWES combines the elegant proportions of a Sparkman & Stephens design with American craftsmanship and the sailing qualities of a modern performance daysailer. Her sweeping sheer, long overhangs and low coachroof are beautifully complemented by blue Awlgrip topsides, teak decks and varnished brightwork.

Her traditional appearance is matched by a thoroughly modern approach below the waterline and aloft. The Morris M36 composite construction, a fin keel, carbon rudder and Hall Spars carbon mast provide the foundations for responsive handling and rewarding sailing. A self-tacking jib and control lines led beneath the deck to winches beside the wheel make her readily manageable by one person, leaving guests free to enjoy the sail.

The generous cockpit of the Morris M36 accommodates six, with long seats forward of the helm and a removable table for lunch at anchor. Below, a bright Herreshoff-style interior offers four berths, a compact galley and a separate heads, making a night aboard or a weekend away an inviting option.

Brokers comments

The Sparkman & Stephens-designed Morris M36 combines rewarding sailing with a straightforward deck arrangement for short-handed use. Her quality of finish and classic proportions give her a lasting attraction.

In her present ownership since 2020, CHAMELEON OF COWES has cruised and raced in the Solent and made two trips to Devon. Her owner reports an annual invitation to join the British Classic Yacht Club regatta.

Much of her maintenance has been entrusted to the renowned Clare Lallow boatyard in Cowes. Work documented in 2025 included replacement of the saildrive seal, varnish repairs and a full finishing coat to the exterior brightwork, and removal and re-bedding of the port handrail. Her engine was last serviced in June 2026.

Recent investment includes a professional hull repaint in 2023, copper antifouling in 2024 and updated Raymarine wireless instruments. North 3Di working sails, a 2023 spinnaker and a lightly used Ratsey & Lapthorne Code Zero complement her appeal for days afloat, occasional racing and weekends along the coast.
