VPLP / Verdier | Multiplast, 2015
Hull name: Absolute Dreamer 5
Built by Multiplast, drawn by VPLP and Guillaume Verdier, and raced around the world three times at the highest level of solo offshore sailing, this IMOCA 60 is one of the most proven hulls in the class. She won the Transat Jacques Vabre, finished 4th and 8th in back-to-back Vendée Globes, and completed her third circumnavigation in the 2024-25 edition all while receiving a continuous programme of upgrades that leaves her structurally and technically current: 2023 Verdier foils, new rudders, new engine, Starlink, SEA. AI, and a full North Sails working wardrobe renewed in 2024. A decade of elite campaigning has not diminished this boat, it has refined her.
She is one of the first generation of foiling IMOCA 60s a cohort that fundamentally changed offshore racing. Two-thirds of the carbon used in construction is T800H grade; the balance is HR common fibre.
Design & Construction
Architect: VPLP / Guillaume Verdier (Gitana / SMV design group)
Builder: Multiplast, Vannes launched September 2015
Hull construction: T800H carbon (two-thirds) and HR common fibre
The boat has competed at the highest level of solo offshore sailing under three distinguished skippers. Originally raced as Saint-Michel Virbac by Jean-Pierre Dick, she took 4th place in the 201617 Vendée Globe and won the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2017. In 2018, Yann Eliès sailed her to 2nd place in the Route du Rhum.
From 2019 onwards, Italian skipper Giancarlo Pedote campaigned the boat as Prysmian, achieving 8th place in the 202021 Vendée Globe and 7th in the 202425 edition. That consistency across a decade of top-level competition speaks for itself.
Race Record
4th Vendée Globe 201617 (Jean-Pierre Dick)
1st Transat Jacques Vabre 2017 (Dick / Eliès)
2nd Route du Rhum 2018 (Yann Eliès)
8th Vendée Globe 202021 (Giancarlo Pedote)
7th Vendée Globe 202425 (Giancarlo Pedote)
Between campaigns, the vessel has been subject to a thorough programme of structural and performance upgrades. In April 2022 the bow was redesigned and rebuilt over 6 metres to a new VPLP profile by Gepeto Composite. The hull bottom was reharmonised in 202223, replacing Nomex panels with M130 carbon and adding internal omega reinforcements following Verdier/VPLP structural analysis.
In April 2023, the foil cases and reinforcement bulkhead were rebuilt, a new foil wedge and rake system was installed, and new 2023-design Verdier foils identical in specification to those on V&B, Guyot Environnement, and Biotherm V1 were built by CDK using batten technology. New rudders to Verdier's design (same specification as LOccitane-Apivia 1), fitted with titanium bearings, were produced by Heol Composite in 2024. All running rigging was renewed before the 2024 Vendée Globe.
Recent Major Upgrades ( )
New bow section (6 m) VPLP design / Gepeto Composite, April 2022
Hull bottom reharmonisation: Nomex replaced with M130 / omega reinforcement Verdier/VPLP / Gepeto Composite, 202223
New 2023 Verdier foils (CDK, batten technology) same specification as V&B, Guyot, Biotherm V1
New foil case reinforcement and foil wedge/rake system MerConcept / Gepeto, April 2023
New rudders (Verdier design / Heol Composite, titanium bearings) 2024
New Lombardini LDW1404/M engine with Racing Gory 2 propeller shaft 2024
Full running rigging renewal (Gottifredi Maffioli) pre-Vendée Globe 2024
SEA. AI anti-collision system; Raymarine Quantum 2 radar + Axiom 9+ display 2024
Starlink satellite communications June 2024
The electronics package is current and comprehensive: three independent Madintec autopilot systems with B&G H5000 emergency backup, SEA. AI anti-collision with masthead camera, Raymarine Quantum 2 radar with Axiom 9+ display, and Starlink fitted June 2024. Navigation instrumentation was recalibrated and updated throughout the 2024 campaign.
The energy system is similarly well specified, with twin Watt & Sea racing hydro generators, 960W Solbian roof solar panels divided into four independent sections, three LiFePO4 100Ah battery banks under Victron BMS management, and a new Lombardini engine with Racing Gory shaft, both 2024.
The North Sails France inventory is extensive, with multiple vintages across all sail codes two mainsails (2024 and 2020), and full complements of J0, J2, J3, Fr0, and Mh0 in 2024 and 2020 cuts, plus three downwind sails. The boat is offered with deck covers, foil fenders, hull cradles, and all ancillary equipment as itemised below.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a properly maintained, thoroughly documented IMOCA 60 with extensive recent investment and one of the most credible race records in the class.
