Catara is an innovative and spacious trimaran designed by Marc Lombard for exceptional comfort and performance. With a sleek, modern design and the versatility to handle both bluewater cruising and coastal exploration, she offers the best of both worlds. Catara was purchased new in late 2023 and sailed across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. She was very briefly put into a Caribbean charter fleet and completed only two charters there, the guests absolutely loved her many comforts and the ability to island hop quickly. The owners plans have since changed and she was removed from charter trade and is now available right in the heart of the Caribbean's best cruising grounds, Grenada. Her shallow draft make her an ideal cruiser for the Grenadines and beyond. All systems and equipment were fully serviced after her brief time in charter. Catara offers a bright and airy salon with panoramic windows offering 360-degree views and ample seating, with a dining table that comfortably seats 6. The cockpit almost imperceptibly merges with the saloon, Neel calls this the "cockloon", where the cockpit and saloon are separated or, more correctly, united by large sliding doors. She has a fully equipped galley, with refrigerator, freezer, stove, and oven, perfect for extended cruising. Catara also features a water maker, a generator, and a large secondary (portable) fridge/freezer. The spacious owner's suite is on the main deck, and she has two additional guest cabins. She sleeps up to 6 comfortably and all cabins are airconditioned, as is the salon. Neel trimarans are renowned for their excellent performance in a range of wind conditions. The combination of a lightweight design and large sail area makes for a yacht that's both fast and fun to sail. Manufactures Provided DescriptionWhy a Trimaran is SAFER at seaThe width of NEEL trimarans is an important factor for safety on the high seas because it is a guarantee of stability. On a catamaran, the maximum righting moment occurs at 12° heeling, as shown on the stability curve. This angle can be reached relatively easily when sailing in strong winds and heavy seas. However, on a trimaran, this maximum righting moment does not occur until 27° heeling, therefore in normal multihull conditions of use, this angle is never reached. For this reason, and thanks to the centered weight distribution, a trimaran is much more stable than a catamaran. Why a NEEL Trimaran is FASTER at seaTrimarans are significantly faster than monohulls or catamarans. The superiority of the trimaran is obvious during upwind sailing, especially due to the rig : on a catamaran, the forestay pulls from the front beam, the mast compresses a central beam and the shrouds pull the two floats supporting the forestay and mast beam: this platform deforms in many directions. Consequently, it is then impossible to have a rigid forestay. On a trimaran, the forestay, mast, and mainsail tension are structurally bonded to one strong, longitudinal beam: the main hull. This configuration, as per a monohull, allows for a rigid forestay and good performance up-wind. Performance is also enhanced by the centered weight.
