JS 9000 rocket ship ~ Capable of delivering up to 20kn of exhilarating boat speed!

The JS 9000 was the brainchild of America's Cup defence designer John Swarbrick. His impressive résumé includes the famous Kookaburra series of 12-metre yachts and Tokio, the Chris Dickson-skippered Whitbread 60.

Bateau Rouge was the very first JS 9000 to emerge from the mould. In 2002, she was shipped to Germany and exhibited at both the Düsseldorf and Southampton Boat Shows. The debut was a great success, generating considerable interest from buyers across Europe and the UK. In total, approximately 30 JS 9000s were produced by Swarbrick Yachts and shipped to owners around the world.

The current--and only--owner has had Bateau Rouge since new. Following her initial launch, the JS 9000 design underwent a series of minor refinements, and each time, Bateau Rouge was updated to incorporate the latest improvements and systems.

The JS 9000 offers a truly exhilarating sailing experience. The owner's top recorded speed to date is just over 20 knots, and he reports that Bateau Rouge regularly reaches speeds in excess of 18 knots.

Bateau Rouge boasts an impressive sail wardrobe, including an asymmetrical spinnaker and a Code 0, offering versatility across a wide range of conditions. Performance is optimised with a carbon fibre mast and boom, while a mast-lowering system, complete with twin poles and associated tackle, allows the mast to be safely lowered for maintenance and rig inspections.

Designed to be sailed with a minimum crew, the JS 9000 can be handled single-handed, but performs best with a crew of two or three. All sail controls are led aft to a central cockpit pedestal equipped with a single winch, allowing for efficient and streamlined sail handling. The self-tacking furling jib further enhances ease of operation, making the JS 9000 exceptionally manageable even in demanding conditions.

Bateau Rouge is currently kept at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. She rests on a jinker (had a major refurbish in 2024) and can be easily rolled down to the crane for launching, with the mast already stepped and ready to sail. A stowable bridle system provides a single lifting point for convenient launching and retrieval. An electric trailer dolly (pictured without the 12V battery installed) is included, allowing effortless movement of the trailer to the crane. A large, lockable sail locker is also included in the sale.
