Beautifully crafted with an impressive proven track record, this Van De Stadt Antigua "Bushranger" presents an exceptional package in fantastic condition. Launched in 1965, Bushranger has seen 4 ownerships, with the current owner having purchased the vessel in 1986. The vessel went on to compete in three Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races and a Three Peaks Race in 1989. With extensive sea miles cruising to New Zealand and around Tasmania, this vessel has proven itself as a relatively fast blue-water yacht. Continuous upgrades and a strict maintenance schedule have resulted in a vessel that is sure to impress!
Upon entry below decks, a great deal of natural light creates a light and airy interior, paired with beautiful timber trims in excellent condition. The galley is well laid out for ocean passages, featuring a Spinflow 2-burner gas stove with grill and oven, large capacity fridge, twin stainless-steel sinks and good bench space. Opposite is the head, featuring a marine toilet and vanity with a beautiful timber bench top. A storage locker and nav station sit aft of the head on the starboard side, while a large quarter berth runs towards the stern, being mirrored on the port side. The saloon is spacious with plenty of seating for at least 8 in comfort across two opposing settees, accompanied by a folding timber dinette. Behind the port settee is a possible cushioned single berth, while the starboard side provides additional storage.
Forward of the saloon is what could be considered the master bedroom. Cleverly configured to feature a large double berth to the port side, while retaining great storage and a floor space to starboard. This space also provides great access to the forepeak and chain locker, while sail storage can be found under the double berth.
Power comes from an upgraded Yanmar 35hp diesel engine, sporting just 950 hours. This provides an easy cruise speed of 5 knots and a top speed of 6 knots, consuming just 2L/hr at cruise with a fuel capacity of 180L across two tanks.
The cockpit is lined with teak slats and benefits hugely from a hard dodger and bimini, while a neat helm wheel is mounted centrally on a pedestal. The side decks and foredeck areas are simple to navigate, being uncluttered with plenty of hand holds. The spars present in great condition, with both masts being aluminium. 6 Barlow and 2 Maxwell winches are tactically positioned across the exterior, with all sheets being led aft for easy handling. A furling headsail is a great touch, accompanying a complete sail wardrobe that is in fantastic condition. The aft deck features a handy stainless-steel frame to house an 80W solar panel, while the mizzen sits just aft in a boom bag with lazy jacks. An aft lazarette provides good below decks storage, while a thoughtful aft seat is well suited for those who'd rather be steering with a gin and tonic in hand.
"Bushranger" presents as a great display of proper care and maintenance from a series of long-term ownerships. With a decorated and well-accomplished history, this vessel has proven itself as a capable bluewater performance cruiser. A charming and tasteful interior that presents in exceptional condition are a credit to the current long-term owners.
